I doubt Dean and Clark will unite
Edited on Sat Jan-31-04 02:43 PM by quinnox
I'm hearing a lot of talk here on DU about a possible Dean and Clark alliance. While this might have some potential, I have doubts whether it would take place. The problem I see is that Dean might go all the way to the convention, he has been making noises that suggest this course lately. So if Dean isn't gonna drop, will Clark?

This is more of a possibility, if Edwards can overwhelm Clark in the majority of the southern primaries, then maybe Clark would withdraw. But even if this scenario happened (which is no means certain), would Clark really throw his lot in with Dean? Especially when they had a big blow-up over the He said/ He said over whether Dean offered Clark a VP slot. And also Clark said he won't be Dean's "Cheney". I don't see the makings of an alliance when looking at the past history.

1. I'm definitely seeing some factionalization
Kerry/Edwards and Dean/Clark ... and then Sharpton, Kucinich, and Lieberman are on their own

2. It seems that Clark and his supporters are hoping for the South
...a logical choice, since the General is from Arkansas, and well... he is a General after all, and the South has the lion's share of military families. If Clark doesn't pick up some of the Southern states, it doesn't bode very well for his chances. Where Clark goes from there would be the question, but it would be a total 180 degree shift for him to throw his support to the DLC establishment candidates, so I don't see him teaming up with Kerry, or even Edwards.

Whether he would reconsider being Dean's running mate... I don't know the answer to that either. But if the General's serious about changing things, and can't get the top spot on his own, then his best chance to do so would be to align with those of us who want the same thing.

That being said, I don't expect Clark or his supporters to throw in the towel any sooner than we will.

3. Pure fantasy!
please....let the candidates decide before we decide for them.

Our "Two-Cents" doesn't compare to their "Two-Dollars".
