Spygate as a National ID. Spygate as gun registration.
One small step for Junior, one giant leap for jack-booted thugs in black helicopters. The degree of paranoia raised by Spygate is just too low, IMO. Bush is playing with fire right now, and he knows it. He's whistling past the graveyard. The only thing missing are the bony hands popping up from the sod to drag him under. Here are some possibilities.

The people who are afraid of a National ID don't need to worry any more. Spygate technology can fuse every ID they already have (phone number, SSN, e-mail address, IM address) into one virtual ID without them even knowing it. You don't need to carry a National ID. Your mobile phone will do.

The people who are worried about gun registration don't need to worry any more. Any guns they talk about on the phone or in e-mail will be automatically registered. But hey, no fee.

You militia nut cases out there? No worries. Your entire group is known. And if one of you loons has a brother in the Aryan Nation, you're all linked to it too.

1. Yeah but
Honest George is only spying on the Bad Guys - you know that.

Of course due to the pending leak investigation nobody will be able to comment for a few years...

2. Bush wants to leave the impression ...
... that he is only spying on "Bad Guys." And you're right, the investigation by DOJ lets them stonewall with impunity. A lot of Bush's (crank) base doesn't trust the government, period.

3. And knowing how incompetant this government is
the liklihood is that they will let real terror suspects go (like what happened earlier this month in NYC with the guy coming from Egypt whose shoes tested positive for explosives-just heard on the best of Randi Rhodes from Dec. 8)while holding people who aren't guilty of anything except being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

4. Right except aWoL is spying on the Quakers not the Aryan nations.
These fools believe Greenpeace is a greater threat than The Skin head haters.

Oh I forgot the Goon Oaf Party controls the Skin Head Haters.

6. Make fear work for us for a change.
Paranoia doesn't have to make perfect sense. Enemies of America's government will tend to gravitate to one another in the Spygate database. Why wouldn't a right wing nut job try to help Al Qaeda with a terrorist act? The common goal is to bring down the U.S. government.
