Why do freepers think liberals are sympathetic with Islamists?
I see this notion expressed all the time by freepers and wingnuts. It completely boggles my mind. In my view, any fundamentalist religion with a political agenda is inherently dangerous to liberal democracy. I view fundamentalist Islam as one of the greatest world threats. I also view the religious right as one of the greatest threats to our own nation, and incapable of adequately responding to what is just a different kind of fundamentalism. But for some odd reason, the wingnuts seem to think that opposition to them means alignment with Islamism.

2. Because Rush, Hannity and Coulter tell em we are.
They can't think for themselves. That's why they don't even see the irony in calling themselves "Dittoheads"

4. You were expecting logic?
Most libs are against the war, ergo, we are sympathetic to terrorists and therefore supporting of Islamic fundamentalism. GIANT leap in logic, but that's about par for the course IMO.

it's kind of like alcoholics (or other addicts) who project their issues onto the people around them.

7. I think it's because...
we oppose the war, and in general we exercise more tolerance in matters of belief than they do; somehow they mistake this for approving of or agreeing with same. Freepnuts tend to be very frightened of any religion but their own, and to think that the most important thing to do in a crisis is start a fight. In the fundamentalist churches, they may be taught to see other religions as inspired by the devil. Thus the enemy becomes not even human.

10. hey, they lie a lot, what else can we say?
They're also simpletons with a light switch mentality. There is only on or off, black or white with no shades of grey. If you hate what Stupid is doing to this country, why you MUST love bin Laden!

Personally, if someone says this to me, I react as though I'd been given any other nasty insult by an obnoxious idiot who really needs to learn some manners. Nobody ever says this stuff to my face twice.

14. They know we're not sympathetic - but it wins them votes to say we are.
The Reps know that if they tell the average Joe Blow that, then Joe Blow won't do his own homework to see if it's true because he's too lazy and just wants to get his "News In 90 Seconds." Joe Blow will then vote Rep even when it's against his own best interest because who would vote for a Radical Islamic sympathizer??

16. It's one of those Republican "point the finger of blame elsewhere"
deals. Freepers think that if they can smear Democrats, then less attention will be paid to Bush's great anti-terror pre-911 efforts.

Bush "efforts" like, sleeping in a hammock for 30 days...
