John Kerry to Address Council on Foreign Relations on Thursday
December 6th, 2005

In the wake of the 9/11 Commission’s final report released today, it appears that John Kerry has no intention of letting up on exposing the ineptitudes of the Bush administration.

Kerry will address the Council on Foreign Relations in New York City on Thursday, December 8. His speech is titled “Real Security in the Post-9/11 World.” The speech is scheduled for 1:00 - 2:00 p.m., followed by meeting at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York City.

2. I hope he spares the country another convoluted and nuanced speech
that will result in a lot of broadband being wasted in debating what did the Senator say, and what did he mean to say.

and then they wont listen to him. and then they will bitch some more. yup. predictable. when i read about his speach my first thought, cool, thursday, more kerry bashing threads, regardless what he says. then as i got into thread said to self, bet they are already bashing him in htis thread. sure enough.

It is pretty bad when even a friend like Keith Olbermann plays Kerry clips showing how convoluted his message still remains.

Compare Kerry's statement to Nancy Pelosi, and you tell me which one makes the most sense:

SEN. JOHN KERRY (D), MASSACHUSETTS: The truth is that the president draws a false line in trying to make his case to America. The troops don‘t belong to his point of view. They belong to America and to Americans. They are Americans. And the best way to protect the troops, the best way to stand up for the troops, is to provide the best policy for success in Iraq.

REP. NANCY PELOSI (D-CA), MINORITY LEADER: The “Plan for Victory” backdrop which—against which the president appeared at the Naval Academy today, was no more accurate than the “Mission Accomplished” backdrop that he used over two and a half years ago on the U.S.S. “Abraham Lincoln.” The president did not have a plan for victory when he went into his war of choice in Iraq, and that he did not have a plan for victory today.

They wouldn't like him when he's angry...

12. These are two seperate answers to two seperate questions.
It's like comparing apples and oranges. Pelossi is speaking about winning the war, Kerry refers to the troops and his concern for the troops. He makes perfect sense to me.Kerry is Kerry, I wouldn't want him to dummy up for me. Olbermann doesn't really understand Kerry and has to answer to corporate owners.

Another great leader Abraham Lincoln spoke of our soldiers also and he did so elloquently also,

"Fourscore and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, concieved in liberty,and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. ...

"It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us...that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion, that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain, that this nation,under God, shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people, for the people shall not perish from the earth."

Gee, I wonder how that would sound dummied down?

14. Actually Kerry said something quite similar to what Pelosi said
This is a case of the writers of the article taking 2 different pieces out of longer speeches. They are making 2 really different points and I like both.

21. wasnt tough for me to understand either one. but it isnt people explaining
what kerry says. it is correcting people who say he didnt say, when he did. or saying he did say when he didnt. that is what people are continually doing on the kerry bashing threads, repeatedly stopping the lies and propaganda. mistruths.....

25. He's won 5 state wide elections to high office and

very nearly won the Presidency. Only 50 people a century are their party's nominee. Only 5 0r 6 people in your generation will achieve this (if you assume a generation spans 10 years). Also unlike most people who win state wide office, he had no mentor or major media support pushing him.

So, you have what experience in running for office?

He has said that he doesn't know if he'll run again for the Presidency. He seems to be focused on 3 major things. Trying to end the war in Iraq, leaving some chance of stability; strengthening the Democratic party and being a good Senator.

If he were just focused on Iraq, he would take a more equivocal stand on Iraq. Instead he is trying very hard to convince people the it's counterproductive for us to do the policing and search and destroy. This is a very key thing to do and it would be great if Bush (even if he called it a different name, did it. His prison amendment is significant and brought additional attention to the issue. He is being a good Senator.
