Iraq Withdrawl: Feingold Leads and They Will Follow
Edited on Wed Nov-30-05 09:58 PM by pstans
Feingold leads...

2003: Sen. Feingold votes the Iraq War Resolution and in favor of $87 billion to support our troops.

June 14, 2005: Sen. Feingold becomes the 1st Senator to call for a timeline for troop withdrawal from Iraq.

August 17, 2005: Sen. Feingold sets a target date of December 31, 2006 for troop withdrawal.

and they will follow...

November 15, 2005: The GOP-controlled Senate rejected a Democratic call Tuesday for a timetable for withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq but urged President Bush to outline his plan for “the successful completion of the mission” in a bill reflecting a growing bipartisan unease with his Iraq policies.

November 17, 2005: John Murtha, the top House Democrat on military spending matters, stunned colleagues yesterdayby calling for the withdrawal of US troops from Iraq.

November 18, 2005 House Republicans introduce a bill to withdrawal US troops from Iraq immediately. The bill was defeated, but the debate on a timetable for withdrawal continues.

In the past week, Feingold has been on ABC, NPR, and MSNBC calling for a timetable and a plan in Iraq saying, “A majority of the American people, an increasing number of elected officials, and according to a recent article in the “New Yorker,” more and more military and intelligence officials, believe that the President’s “stay the course” policy in Iraq isn’t working. Our brave service members and their families deserve answers about how long they can expect to be in Iraq. The American people deserve a clear plan for concluding our military mission. And the Iraqi people need to know without any doubt that we do not intend to stay in that country indefinitely."

Unlike other Democratic leaders and presidential hopefuls, Feingold has been consistant on the Iraq War. His principled leadership has been there from day 1 and he continues to speak up in support of our troops and average Americans.

1. Feingold will not be taken seriously with his current stand
why, you may protest? because his timeline, while somewhat innovative when he introduced it, was too long ... and now, Feingold's plan has been eclipsed by something bolder ...

the House is rapidly moving to endorse Murtha's plan which calls for withdrawal to begin immediately and conclude within 6 months ... Feingold's ideas are old news now and they made only a tiny splash ... if Feingold is looking for support from the left, it's time for him to challenge his fellow Senators to get behind Murtha, as Pelosi did today ...

that's the last unclaimed prize on the table ...
