Here we go. "Economy surges."
Edited on Wed Nov-30-05 12:52 PM by nickshepDEM
AP:

U.S. economic growth was much stronger in the third quarter than first thought as consumers and businesses spent more than estimated, but corporate profits shrank as insurers were sideswiped by Gulf Coast hurricanes, a government report showed on Wednesday.

U.S. gross domestic product, a measure of all goods and services produced within U.S. borders, grew at a revised 4.3 percent annual rate in the July-to-September period, the fastest pace since the first three months of 2004, the Commerce Department said.

In its first snapshot a month ago, the department had put third-quarter growth at 3.8 and Wall Street economists had expected the rate to be revised up more modestly, to 4.0 percent. The sharp upward bump took growth a full point above the second-quarter’s 3.3 percent rate.

1. Well, apparently figures lie
I believe that these economic indicators now have tremendous qualifiers built-in, including "survey" responses with huge plus/minus percentage points which make them essentially meaningless.

I am so tired of all their b-shit!!!

2. Yeah but, those brand new refrigerator boxes that the homeless
sleep in don't. And I've noticed quite a few lately. Well at least two!

3. "Economy Purges" is more accurate
When big corporations are laying off workers by the thousands, it sounds more like an economic purge than an economic surge.

4. Beucause the people who make the statistics say so
the same people who get their paychecks from this White House are the same people who are paid to make up the statistics about the economy. It's only a question of how much they think they can get away with.

5. Economy is surging because of interest income
since the wealthiest only now pay 15% interest on capital gains and investment income. The actual wage income has fallen every year under this administration. The middle class is sinking lower and lower and lower, while the poor are getting more and more numerous.

6. The national economy may be "growing", but each individual's
"economy" is in the toilet. I haven't seen an increase in my family's "economy" in over 5 years.
