Is there an Escape from the RW/MSM Echo Chamber ?
I don't know if this more of a rant or a question but here goes...

Thanksgiving is next week and like many I am off to visit relatives. Certain relatives of mine support liberal causes, donate to Conyers, Rangel and, until he started talking presidency, Evan Byah. They are active in the Quaker church, etc....

BUT when you ride in the car with them they turn on Rush Limbaugh (!?). At home, they tune to MSNBC and the Today Show and they get themselves all pissed off. They wait in vain for these 'journalists' to "do their job". They won't turn off this propaganda crap for fear of "being out of the loop." When you try to talk about issues with them, they revert back to the way that issues are framed by right wing news sources -- don't get me wrong, they take the correct side of the issue but it is as if they don't want to leave the echo chamber that is U.S. MSM.

They are unwilling to listen to facts about the theft of Ohio in 2004 and I have to believe it is because it doesn't fit with the warped reality presented by a non-stop barrage of RW talking points.

I asked one of these relatives if they were aware that MSNBC does not allow their shows (KO excluded) to book most left-leaning guests and they thought my tin foil hat was on a bit tight. I sent them back-up for the statement via email and got no response. It reminds me of the lyrics from Tommy: "I've told you what it takes to reach the highest highs -- No one has the guts to leave the temple!" Except that in this case they don't have the guts to turn off the right-wing echo chamber BS.

Any thoughts on how to bust them out of the echo chamber? Anything that has worked for any of you would be appreciated.

1. What strange people!
Maybe you can talk them into reading some RW blogs and listening to good music instead.

You get the same stuff, without having to hear that voice.

3. I don't think this all that uncommon
Getting ticked off is like a cup of coffee for them but of course, why fill your head with all that junk?

2. It's not just the "news" from MSM, it's all of the other stuff that goes
along with the news, all of the programming. Pulling the plug feels a little like loosing a close friend, but you get over it eventually.
