Hey, the Democrat just took the lead in Virginia attorney general race!
R.C Deeds, by 1400 votes. He's trailed all night but Fairfax County just finished reporting and he surged into the lead: http://sbe.virginiainteractive.org/

I must warn that most of the outstanding precincts appear to be in GOP territory, if you click on "Locality." But there are still some remaining votes in friendly precincts.

1. Recount inevitable.

So we have two prosecutorial attorneys, and a legal recount recourse for 1% margins. And weirdness in Roanoke with vote-switching touchscreens.

(EDIT: Oh, and a Lt Gov race that may just barely eek into the 1% recount territory, to boot.)

All I can say is:

2. I've been following it the whole evening as well.
Since it's so close, won't there be an automatic recount? I am not in Virginia so don't know the local rules. We do have it in WA state.

5. Someone in VA forum...
...was saying there's no mandatory recount -- it has to be requested.

It would be quite telling if the Rethug lost by a slim, slim margin and didn't request a recount. I suppose they could get away with it if they went with the excuse that they were trying to pressure the Dem Lt Gov not to appeal for a recount. But still.

7. We need a big number in Richmond City and Petersburg City
Edited on Wed Nov-09-05 12:38 AM by Awsi Dooger
Both are huge Democratic counties percentagewise, probably in African American areas based on the margins we're receiving. One precinct outstanding in each county.

Let's hope the inevitable recount works out as well as it did for Gregoire.

9. Yes -- and it would help if he is ahead and perceived as a winner
even though it wasn't the case for Gregoire. Since Virginia is redder than Washington, it would be more important.

12. Still waiting for those two Democratic precincts
Hanover County predictably put up back in the hole, 3400 votes. Only 9 precincts remaining.

8. That damn Hanover County might screw us
Half the remaining precincts are there, for some reason. And it's a 69% Kilgore county so far.

11. Link for recount info, I think:
http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?000+cod+24.2-802

I'm not sure what the status of the absentee ballots is. They have to be watched closely if they're not already counted.

A recount might prove interesting.
