And it isn't going to be a moderate republican--it will most likely be a PNAC secret sympathizer--so how much better can that be? The most we could hope for would be someone minimally competent, but that's even worse, because then he will dismantle our rights, etc., while actually running a hurricane rescue competently. Do we want that? The big plus we have in Bush et al is that they are SO greedy, SO incompetent, and SO venal that even diehard repubs are starting to see through them. That may not be a bad thing.

I think a big impeachment hearings and trial in 2007 into 2008 should be just enough to keep them from causing too much more damage and keep the American people tuned into the shit they have created.

has made the Repugs more dis organized and vulnerable. We don't really have to convict him to stop the Congressional Repugs dead in the water; distracting him in the fight for his political career is forcing him to direct his thought and energy elsewhere - when they badly need him.
