Despite the investigations, indictments, & bad performance of repubs
when the elections are held they will trot out their "winning" formulae and attitudes:

--Flag burning amendment
--Bashing gay people
--"2nd Amendment" rights
--Cut taxes
--Terra, Terra
--Prayer in school
--Waving flags
--"Boots on the ground"
--Anger at the world
--Hate

My theory is that more and more Americans are weary of those issues and are more interested in Democratic issues and attitudes:

--Health care
--Job security
--Minimum wage increase
--Peace
--Privacy
--Free speech
--Industry in America
--Healthy environment
--Diplomacy
--Happiness and Love

3. So why not shift the balance a bit?
Why the hell can't the Democratic Party come out with its first principle as being individual freedom? Not just free speech, but also freedom of religion, freedom of association, freedom to travel, freedom to use birth control and have an abortion, freedom to marry who you want, and yes, damn it, freedom to own a gun, if that's what you want.

We let the damn Republicans steal the word freedom, even as they oppose it on most issues. They trumpet gun ownership as if that were most important freedom of all, piss over the rest of the Bill of Rights, and for the most part, Democrats give them the show by listing freedom as number four or five in their list. Let's flank them on this issue. Let's declare the Democratic Party is the party of civil liberty, the party that believes in both the Bill of Rights and the reconstruction amendments, and that is trying to protect individual freedom from the religious right. That is the rhetoric we need to adopt.
