NBC Nightly News...leads with gwb watching the dvd his staff put
together for him.

As those who read the Newsweek story know, the DVD was a compilation of nightly news coverage about the aftermath of Katrina.

Brian Williams said, "and only then did the President recognize the seriousness of the situation."

They glossed over the "accepting responsibility" remark and referenced the DVD again, before the end of the segment.

Was that a 'bullhorn moment' in Junior's eyes?!

3. What pisses me off is that
Edited on Tue Sep-13-05 07:15 PM by hippiechick
...we're not seeing the simultaneous footage of ole' George strummin' that thar gee-tar and having cake with Senator McCain while NOLA was being deluged that we saw a couple weeks back.

THAT is the imagery that speaks for itself, IMO, and no American would need to see anything else to decide to call for Chimpeachment.

4. I saw Brian Williams' promo this afternoon
He seemed like a changed man. He had this expression on his face that said "I've seen the light and I know that Bush is full of shit."

30. I'm so glad Brian has seen the light
You think if we scream in his face for another five years or so he might actually begin to evince the initial beginnings of a consistent skepticism when the administration is so clearly spouting nonsense like "tax cuts will mean more revenue"?

I've seen enough media weather vaning in the last five years to know that it'll take just a couple of weeks before they resume their supine reporting on the corrupt Bush administration.

9. It was referenced further into the report of gwb sustaining political
damage from the perception that he is "out of touch."

The remark was described as "politically expedient" rather than a sincere statement.

Their reporting was superb tonight. I was floored. MKJ

6. Check out Brian's blog today:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8045532/#050913b
Here's an snippet:

"The President told me the last time I spent time with him that he does not watch the evening newscasts (an aide reminded him that a videotape compilation is brought to the residence each evening should he desire to watch) and prefers instead to watch ESPN or "any baseball game" on television, in season... (I'm honor-bound to point out that after getting home from work some evenings, I've found that exact programming to be the perfect tonic during normal times)."

Uhm--yeah Brian, but that's after a day at work REPORTING the news, not IGNORING it.

13. Brian Williams is quickly becoming my new anchorman crush...
I mean, the list is getting so long and distinguished... Being a woman, I've got plenty of men on the news to choose from. Don't know who you straight men can have crushes on. Heck ya can't even get reciprocated love from Rachel Maddow... (My only news woman crush...)

Jon Stewart (my original man crush)
Keith Olbermann
Brian Williams
Anderson Cooper

And while I don't have a crush on Jack Cafferty, I'm definitely finding him highly endearing.

So many crush-worthy news men! So little time!

:loveya:  :loveya:

:woohoo:

23. The Amazing thing is Bush was shown the tape on Thursday???
or Friday??? I beielve it was Thursday.....

The point is: No one told the President...of the outrage unfolding due to lack of water/food for 30,000 plus people trapped?

No One?

Not even the VP Cheney, nor Condi, Nor Rummy? Not one of BushCo's Team came forward to urge the Prez to take action on Tuesday?

Wednesday?

Thursday he finds out?///still no help???

On Friday Morning, the Mayor is cursing to Nat TV asking for Help, the help he was asking from Day 1 Monday.....

BushCo was UNAWARE?????? This is so full of shit its pathetic....

And he had to have a DVD to see it??? The message is they

1. Don't care, unconcerned, and/or just don't give a shit

2. It was semi Intentional....."OH, Da Poor things...les see, Brown can handle it....wheres my second serving of cake?"

3. It was INTENTIONA///Let them eat SHIT attitude.

The WHOLE BUSH GANG can sleep at night??? Knowing they part of this MEGA Cluster Fuck??? Now they denying and distracting?

Some kind a leaders these Pubs are....

It's one thing for us to have read about it, but for NBC nightly news to lead with it? That reaches millions of average mainstream citizens.

responsibility or whatever it was he did.

Instead, they opened with the DVD story. It was a very pleasant surprise. MKJ

26. Do you understand what this means?
Bubble Boy is a complete fucking idiot. Look at this thread...

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=102&topic_id=1778603&mesg_id=1778603

In it comes this statement...

The Chertoff memo indicates that the response to Katrina wasn't left to disaster professionals, but was run out of the White House, said George Haddow, a former deputy chief of staff at FEMA during the Clinton administration and the co-author of an emergency management textbook.

"It shows that the president is running the disaster, the White House is running it as opposed to Brown or Chertoff," Haddow said. Brown "is a convenient fall guy. He's not the problem really. The problem is a system that was marginalized."

The White House was running the operation and they had no fucking clue how bad it was?

29. I believe they did have a clue
and were waiting for it to get bad enough so that their plans to take over the whole region could be justified.

Why has more not been made of Cheney's total MIA status for what, 14 days?

If this was the Clinton administration, Clinton playing the guitar and eating cake, his SOS shopping and going to the theater, Gore shopping for a mansion and going fly-fishing and his SOD going to ball games, would be saturation coverage, night after night, day after day.

Why is this not happening on the MSM? Why are they still covering for this now obviously criminal administration? Dean's scream and the SBV liars got 24/7 coverage, and Clinton's haircut was fodder for the nightly news for weeks.

I now fully believe that this administration deliberately held back aid to the Gulf Coast until the disaster was of such magnitude that they could implement, eg, The Eminent Domain Legislation, recently passed in Congress, and Federalize the entire region. Maybe it took a little longer than they had anticipated for the 'savage poor' to start killing each other which they would then have used to justify sending in the military. But that didn't happen. They did fabricate a few such incidents, like the shooting of rescue helicopters, which never happened.

But the fact that those lies did begin to surface, suggests that this is what they expected and were disappointed at how little crime there was while the tragedy of bodies floating in the streets began to take over the coverage.

I wondered why this administration which so manages the press, allowed them in there for this tragedy. Now, I believe, they expected anarchy and wanted it recorded. Unfortunately for them, the poor proved to be brave, compassionate and heroic in the face of what was allowed to happen to them in a country that had the resources to prevent it.

That is what I now believe, and I have to say, even some of my Repub friends have hesitantly put forth this scenario, since most logically thinking people simply cannot explain how come an entire administration played, while this disaster unfolded before the eyes of the world.
