You Can't Make This Stuff Up ...
Behind the president's public embrace of Mr. Brown was the realization within the administration that the director's ignorance about the evacuees had further inflamed the rage of the storm's poor, black victims and created an impression of a White House that did not care about their lives.

One prominent African-American supporter of Mr. Bush who is close to Karl Rove, the White House political chief, said the president did not go into the heart of New Orleans and meet with black victims on his first trip there, last Friday, because he knew that White House officials were "scared to death" of the reaction.

"If I'm Karl, do I want the visual of black people hollering at the president as if we're living in Rwanda?" said the supporter, who spoke only anonymously because he did not want to antagonize Mr. Rove.

-- Analysis by New York Times' Elisabeth Bumiller, Sept. 10.

1. Then he shouldn't have made it feel like Rwanda, should he?

2. Ok so - he wasn't even
watching TV - that's how concerned he was about the hurricane. If this was meant to make him look less guilty it only makes him look even more disconnected and clueless.

4. less guilty?
I think Bush was scared that the "roving gangs" the GOP talked incessantly about in the days following the hurricane were going to string him up.

3. "An impression of a White House that did not care about their lives."
That's not an impression. That's reality.

White House officials SHOULD be "scared to death" of the reaction. Absolutely anything those black victims said to Bush would have been justified.

Bush was screwed if he did meet with the victims and screwed if he didn't. There's never been anyone more deserving of this Catch-22.

Karl just can't spin this one.

7. You're right.
He's supposed to be the Public Relations front man for this crime cabal.

It's just not working out anymore because he's such a fuck-up.

He doesn't make any of the decisions. He sits around looking dumb-founded when anything of consequence happens. He can't speak unless given his talking points by Rove.

But too many things have happened lately that haven't been in the script. It's called LIFE, and no one, not even Karl Rove, can control it.

8. He believed the right-wing myths
... the police chief said that after investigating things, he couldn't back up rumors about raping and pillaging at the convention center. How sad is it that the president doesn't feel comfortable around his fellow Americans, even at a time of crisis?

9. As far removed from reality that he is,
he's got to be getting the feeling of how much he is despised by his fellow Americans.
