1. I want to know, too
He started doing the right thing, going to the red states and telling the truth about Bushco, then he just fell off the face of the earth.

3. When the search function comes back
do a search for Madfloridian's posts.

He has NOT dropped off the face of the earth.

Last I heard he'd cancelled all fundraising meetings for next week and was looking at how he and the DNC could help in the Gulf coast.

4. My question of the week. Especially THIS WEEK when he could be
rolling up his sleeves and getting down there to do some work- and demonstrate first hand, how to react when these things happen. Gore is doing a fabulous thing-- no fanfare, no media coverage. Where are the rest of the Democrats with friends with private planes and access to resources? I am so disappointed in them I could vomit.

5. You do realize that FEMA and the FAA has to give permission to fly
into the area? Gore was held up a number of days because of this. I have no idea what FEMA would say now to private flights.

6. Where is the Democratic Leadershpi--
Edited on Sun Sep-04-05 01:02 PM by autorank
--oh probably at some "Council" meeting.

Give me a break. Dean can speak ouit, Pelosi, Reid, etc. can speak out. The Governors association, Dem Governors, can speak out.

The whole damn party can speak as one. It's time to shout and scream -- American's have been victimized en masse by their government. There is no other way to look at this.

And it's an urban population, the people who consistenly give up 90% of the vote; the people who gave Mary Landrieu her victory margin (blacks went 88% to 3% for Lanerieu in her last campaign); the people who give the Democrats their only chance at the presidency.

So somebody tell me, what does it take to get these people to act.

When will they grow a spine.

We need ALL NEW LEADERSHIP IN THE DEMOCATIC PARTY.

7. But will anyone notice if they do
They are busy with the disaster. After people are rescued and settled, that is when I expect some noise.

9. As far as I've heard, Pelosi and Reid DID speak out...
Edited on Sun Sep-04-05 01:18 PM by Totally Committed
It was the same "don't rock the boat", "now is not the time" BULLSHIT as usual.

I am so tired of this spineless, soulless, go-along-to-get-reelected collusion. It is tantamount to aiding and abetting Bush in his scheme to kill America.

I feel like Bush and his government are beating me while the leadersof my own Party are holding my hands behind my back. I am disgusted and NOT AMUSED.

I echo you: We need ALL NEW LEADERSHIP IN THE DEMOCATIC PARTY.

TC

On edit: Howard Dean is speaking out via e-mail, through the DNC.

8. Here:
WASHINGTON, Sept. 4 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean released the following statement in response to reports that Republican Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist will push for a vote on Repealing the Estate Tax when the Senate returns on Tuesday:

"Countless thousands of our fellow Americans throughout the Gulf Coast region continue to suffer in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina. While some have begun the painful task of rebuilding their lives and coping with the unfathomable loss, so many still await help. And the cost of this disaster in human and material terms remains unknown.

"It's simply irresponsible for Senator Frist and Ken Mehlman to even think about spending our tax dollars on breaks for millionaires at a time when our top priority must be to ensure we have the resources needed to address the long and short term costs associated with rescue, recovery, and rebuilding in the wake of hurricane Katrina. Not to mention the vital lesson we learned this week about the deadly cost of diverting funds at the expense of the safety of the American people. These costs also come at a time when our nation faces a massive deficit, and mounting costs in the ongoing war in Iraq.

"There is also a question of values, priorities and choices. Tens of thousands of our fellow Americans have literally lost everything; we have a responsibility to put their needs first. Senator Frist should join Democrats in Congress who understand that our priority as a nation must be to focus our energy and resources on determining how we help the victims begin to rebuild their lives and addressing the long term issues we face as a nation in the aftermath of Katrina.

14. Probably helping, as many are.
Yelling is not going to help make Bush budge. If it was the case, we would not be in this mess.

If they actually want to help, rather than simply play politics, they are currently helping, as Gore is doing, by whatever mean they want.

Of course, they could do like Bush, a nice photo-op, but is it really what Dems are about?

15. Exactly. As the chair of a politcal party...
...and not an elected official, any appearence by Dean would -- and perhaphs rightly -- be considered playing politics with a catastrophe. He's doing what he needs to do -- make a statement, and then get to work using whatever pull he has on the relief effort.

Reid, Pelosi, et al. are office holders.

For what it's worth, Ed Gillespie has been equally low-profile.
