Phrasing: E-Voting vs E-Tabulating or Mysterious Tabulating??
It isn't the voting we are concerned about, it is the counting or tabulating of the votes. The general population may not understand our concerns about the Diebold machines (including alot of upper level Dems, I guess). We keep talking about electronic voting, maybe we should rephrase it as electronic counting or mysterious tabulating.

I have read on numerous boards, etc., that Diebold will not file their source code. We need to come up with better terms to explain this so that the general population can more easily understand it. The computer program is mysterious?

"No way to verify your vote," does get attention.

Please share your thoughts and what phrasing seems to turn heads and gain attention.

1. it is about voting
I voted on a machine that kept defaulting to Bush, how can you vote
when the choice is pre-ordained by the winner. I do think that e-voting
sounds high-tech and appeals to people, how about verifiable votes?

2. Having dealt with several county clerks on the issue, I can tell
you one thing that they will reject in a new york second -- "hand counts". Many did those years ago and they evolved to punch cards and are now using the opti-scanners. They love the opti-scanners and my clerk disputes the 24% failure rate that is attributed to opti scanners. The county has been using ES&S opti scanners since 1999 and they have had 4 contested elections with mandatory hand counts of the 6 largest precincts. The hand counts have matched the opti-scan, vote for vote.

If we go around shouting "hand counts only", we are going to alienate the folks we need to get the election reform implemented. The clerks that conduct the elections need to be respected, their experiences need to be considered and their opinions taken into consideration.

To go around claiming that they are violating the law or ignoring the voters is like poking a hornets nest, imho.

4. I don't understand the link to my comments.
I am well aware of the stolen elections. I also know those that have the task of conducting elections. If you alienate them, your grassroots efforts for change are doomed.
