Biden: "I hope Bush will not make the mistake of recess appointing Bolton"
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050729/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/cia_leak_bolton

WASHINGTON - John Bolton, President Bush's nominee for U.N. ambassador, mistakenly told Congress he had not been interviewed or testified in any investigation over the past five years, the State Department said Thursday. Bolton was interviewed by the State Department inspector general in 2003 as part of a joint investigation with the
Central Intelligence Agency into prewar Iraqi attempts to buy nuclear materials from Niger, State Department spokesman Noel Clay said.

The admission came hours after another State Department official said Bolton had correctly answered a Senate questionnaire when he wrote that he has not testified to a grand jury or been interviewed by investigators in any inquiry over the past five years.

The reversal followed persistent Democratic attempts to question Bolton's veracity just days before Bush may use his authority to make him United Nations ambassador after Congress adjourns for its summer recess. For months, Democrats have prevented the Senate from confirming the fiery conservative to the post.

"It seems unusual that Mr. Bolton would not remember his involvement in such a serious matter," said Sen. Joseph Biden (news, bio, voting record), D-Del., the senior Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. "In my mind, this raises more questions that need to be answered. I hope President Bush will not make the mistake of recess appointing Mr. Bolton."

3. Yeah, it sounds like a threat. But a threat from Joe Biden? Feh.

Joe is like an overinflated Zeppelin. He looks large and menacing but if his big Zeppelin collides with you it's just a bump, and then he floats harmlessly away.

6. Condi's good at that - refusing to answer!
Did you see her at the 9/ll hearings last summer.
What a joke!
Let's promote her!

7. Bolton is dead at the UN. Wait til he tries his bully ways. With
Congress cutting funds to the UN, the reps won't be impressed. And they have probably been following DSM/Plame closer than we have. Bet they have connected several more dots.

8. Why do I get the feeling that he MUST be at the UN soon
or the Bushies won't be able to start their next war on time?

Any validity to that notion?

As for Biden, I don't like him, but I must give kudos where they are deserved. He's been very good about leading on this issue at least. It appears to be a rarity with him.
