I posted a similar message in a thread the other day & it got exactly zero response. The other purpose of using the "outing" phrase is to make the crime seem to be less criminal. We never think that outing a gay person is criminal. In fact, many on the right think it's their duty. This crime has everything to do with treason.

This is very important. Every time I hear some empytheaded member of the corporate media spew this, I get angry....but when I hear that crap repeated here ; I want to scream. DO NOT REPEAT RNC TALKING POINTS.

13. I am inclined to think it doesn't have the same connotation. I think this

kind of outing existed before it became popular for gay outing. Could be wrong and maybe I am older than you so I just think about it differently.

14. The verb "outing" arose as a shortened version of...

..."forcing someone OUT of the closet." It has never been a common term for revealing the identity of a clandestine agent.

And, with that association in place, the human brain makes a subconscious connection between "outing" and homosexuality.

It means "to become publicly known" as in "the truth will out."

The closet reference was probably built around the word "out" and came afterwards.
