If Clinton could get impeached because of a blowjob, this is a slam dunk

If you think President Bush should be impeached, it's time to get serious.

We're facing huge obstacles—and they have nothing to do with legal standards for impeachment. This is all about media and politics.

Five months into 2005, the movement to impeach Bush is very small. And three enormous factors weigh against it: 1) Republicans control Congress. 2) Most congressional Democrats are routinely gutless. 3) Big media outlets shun the idea that the president might really be a war criminal.

1. I heard somebody on cspan thismorning discussing this.
I wasn't paying enough attention to remember who this Pub was, but they were discussing Conors mentioning the "I" word. He said, since Conors isn't the head of the Judicial Committee, it really doesn't matter what he does or says. Impeachment has to begin with the head of the Judicial Committee to make any investigation begin, and that's just not going to happen!!!

2. Here's the problem....the GOP was in control when they impeached...
...Clinton, and they're even stronger now. How many of those GOPers are going to buck the NeoCon Junta to join the Dems in moving toward impeachment? How many of the bluedog Dems would consider impeachment proceedings? The Dems are left with a core group of about 30-35 Senators, and maybe one hundred Reps. That's not going to get it done, is it?

And as far as the media is concerned, they are owned and totally controlled by Herr Busch's rightwing corporate sponsors. The only way the media will be cut loose on the NeoCons is when the media's corporate owners decide that the NeoCons are a liability.

3. It's time to start talking about Bush impeachment as a standalone
Edited on Sat Jun-04-05 11:43 AM by quiet.american
It's getting quite irritating to see every mention of impeaching Bush prefaced with "If Clinton could get impeached for a blow job/having sex with an intern/a personal mistake/cheating on his wife, et al."

I say leave Clinton out of it now and talk exactly about why Bush should be impeached as a standalone issue. God knows there's enough there without dragging Clinton's name into it.

4. Impeachment is strictly a political process

Unless the politicians perceive an advantage to it, it won't happen. And most of the poiticians are (excuse the French) Republicans.
