Judge Orders Torture Pictures Released
NEW YORK - A federal judge has told the government it will have to release additional pictures of detainee abuse at Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison, civil rights lawyers said.

Judge Alvin Hellerstein, finding the public has a right to see the pictures, told the government Thursday he will sign an order requiring it to release them to the American Civil Liberties Union, the lawyers said.

The judge made the decision after he and government attorneys privately viewed a sampling of nine pictures resulting from an Army probe into abuse and torture at the prison. The pictures were given to the Army by a military policeman assigned there.

ACLU lawyer Megan Lewis told the judge she believes the government has pictures of abuse beyond the Abu Ghraib images that sparked outrage around the world after they were leaked to the media last year.

Kids sodomized at Abu Ghraib, Pentagon has the videos - Hersh

(From the diaries -- kos)

Seymour Hersh says the US government has videotapes of boys being sodomized at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq.

"The worst is the soundtrack of the boys shrieking," the reporter told an ACLU convention last week. Hersh says there was "a massive amount of criminal wrongdoing that was covered up at the highest command out there, and higher."

This is a summary of Hersh speaking at the ACLU 2004 America At A Crossroads conference according to EdCone.com (via Oliver Willis). I verified by watching the video myself (it starts at 1:07, the "worse stuff" part starts at 1:30).
There's more bad stuff in here, read Ed Cone's summary.

I'll try transcribing some of the more important bits.

Some of the worse that happened that you don't know about, ok. Videos, there are women there. Some of you may have read they were passing letters, communications out to their men. This is at Abu Ghraib which is 30 miles from Baghdad <...>
The women were passing messages saying "Please come and kill me, because of what's happened". Basically what happened is that those women who were arrested with young boys/children in cases that have been recorded. The boys were sodomized with the cameras rolling. The worst about all of them is the soundtrack of the boys shrieking that your government has.

They are in total terror it's going to come out.

It's impossible to say to yourself how do we get there? who are we? Who are these people that sent us there?

14. Why is this "moral" party so bent on using "sexual deviancy" as
torture? Or party of their cooky church cults? WHat gives?

I think gays in the military or boyscouts aren't the problem, it's these damm freepers posing as "gay" somehow to cover their hatred toward children and other men - we already know they don't like women too much since they want them bearfoot and pg and submissive.

Maybe that's why most hillbilly rethugs first love is their mule - literally. Not making it up - some republican pol really said that on TV.

I mean, rape isn't about love or even sex. It's all about power and you see so much of this out of control abuse of children sexually in the "moral" party. Doesn't it seem bizzare?

6. Drip. Drip. Drip.
"Government lawyer Sean Lane argued that releasing pictures, even if faces and other features are obscured, would violate Geneva Convention rules on prisoner treatment by subjecting detainees to additional humiliation or embarrassment. He said the emotional wounds would be reopened because detainees could identify themselves and because the public would learn their identities."

They continue to convict themselves with their own words.

8. The Geneva Convention becomes relevant only when it suits their purpose.
Haven't they been saying that the Geneva Convention rules don't apply to those prisoners who weren't in uniform? It's a fact that, in virtually all of the pictures, the prisoners were without any clothes at all & that in some of the pictures, they were wearing only female panties over their heads.

13. Fine, just turn them directly over to the Hague then.
Let's skip the press all together and let the Hague decide.

I don't need to see the kids suffer any more, but Bush and CO have not even begun to suffer what they should for what the allowed by their top down insanity of stripping away the protections of the Geneva convention to these prisoners in the first place.
