Wes Clark's speech today to the ACLU
This was posted by a Clark blogger. It's only the end of it. I hope somebody taped the entire speech. Please post a link to this thread if you hear of a video online. Thanks.

We cannot win the war on terror.

We cannot fix our educational system.

We cannot deliver health services to Americans.

We cannot improve our business climate, if we don't tend to the most basic factors in America and that is the rule of law and our constitutional liberties and bill of rights.

(CHEERS)

So that brings me back to the great soldiers standing on the football field today, they were fighting for America. They were fighting for you and me. And they were fighting to the best of their ability.

It's the contribution they could make, but it's not enough. If we're going to succeed in the world, if we're going to meet our ideals of opportunity and justice and hope for every American and let our light shine brightly around the world for others, as our obligation is, then we have to fix and work and struggle and improve our own political system, we've got to ensure quality of life, we've got to fix the voting issues, we've got to treat people with respect and dignity.

We've go to make sure every person in America has the opportunity to be all all he or she can be and to do that, we can't go to people in uniform. We don't have enough people in uniform.

With this organization, with you all, with your personal courage, with your consistency and with your dedication and determination, you're going to win this battle for us and you're going to make sure the ideals of that flag are the realities of life for America, for Americans, and the realities that the rest of the world sees when they deal with our country.

1. BOOM, BOOM, BOOM
Edited on Sun May-22-05 09:39 PM by Clark2008
Take 'em up the flagpole and they'll unfurl every time.

I can just hear how he did this: he gave a rousing, but not flaming speech and the audience listened. Then he became quiet and thoughtful before delivering this uppercut in a near-shout that had the room standing at attention. Kind of like he did at the Democratic Convention when he got a roomful of thousands of people to be quiet for about a minute before he he popped out the word, "WAR!"

Love it. :loveya:

5. Sure will...
PM me so I'll remember your user name.

I KNOW the text will be up tomorrow and I'm thinking a video will be up, too, but I'm not 100 percent on that one.

I'll be happy to let you know. :hi:

6. "Be all you can be"
Edited on Sun May-22-05 10:40 PM by Clarkie1
shouldn't just be a mantra for the military. Clark is right - we need make sure every American has the opportunity to be all they can be and strive to be. That's what it means to be a Democrat, and Isn't that what America is all about?

8. This 'be all you can be" concept is something that is close to his heart
I was just listening to a radio interview from a few months back this weekend in which he spoke of the Army's motto "Be all you can be" and how much he believes in that. He said, "I think we should help every American achieve their full potential. I think that's the responsibility of our society." And then he went on to talk about how we shouldn't just build walls around our families and see how much we can pile up for ourselves but that we have to reach outward and make sure that as a community we are helping everyone to achieve their potential. It's a theme I've heard him speak on numerous times.
