9. Yes, it is

It means the Republicans control the discourse -- not the Rad Left.

14. The way I see it,
I support positions, not persons. When a person comes out with the position I don't like, then I bash the position -- and implicitly, the person holding it.

It's not like those who "bash" Big Dog or Kerry are saying they would rather vote for Bush or anything.

15. It's not about YOUR issues.
It's about whatever issues our "leaders" think are "safe."

But my opinion is all I can give.

20. They dont want your opinions- they want your donation check...
...and your volunteer time.

The only opinions they seem to care about are those of swing-voters and media talking heads.

30. Whether they get those or not...
...depends on how much difference I see between them and the alternative.

They ain't doing good, but the alternative is spectacularly bad.

31. But you've gone for the person, not the issue
The thread is about bashing Clinton and Kerry. You didn't mention an issue. There are many issues where you/we could, and should, criticize the Democratic Party leadership. But since politics is a part of the public spectacle, failure to control the criticism and its public message does nothing except make it easier for the Republican radical conservatives to suck the power from us, as vampires feeding on internecine conflict.

The Republicans don't give a rat's filthy ass about either the persons OR the issues -- they want the people out, and their own issues in force. For them, it's about power.

When the Republicans control the communication system, to assume that your remarks will be considered rationally is folly. All that will get through is "See! Even Libbruls hate Klintoon and KKKerry!"

If we lack a clear idea of how to criticize "our bastards" without allowing the Conservative power to use our third rails as their no-cost battery charger, political and issue positions won't mean a thing -- except, maybe, as part of a broad joke to the vampires.

This isn't a slam, by the way. The problem has grown large and ruinous. We can't just sit back and comfort ourselves in defeat with our consciences -- we have to actively take control of the communication, of the issues, and of the Democratic Party. Then, instead of "bashing" the Joe Liebermans and Zell Millers, we can fire them outright -- and bring the Bill Clintons and John Kerrys back to the revival tent when they stray.

And yes, we CAN effectively criticize those Democrats who steer us toward the Right. But not without first getting our collective act together on strategies that affirm the liberal/progressive agenda and call for increased solidarity and effort. When we have that, every conflict will then be a step forward, resolving in a stronger bond of purpose; without it, criticism is trivial and futile.

And in conclusion, I would like to thank the Academy for allowing me this opportunity to rant. :)

2. I disagree with Bid Dog saying Dems have to offer solutions
concerning SS. We empower Bush's agenda doing that while there are more urgent questions.

We have a very simple plan.

Stop raiding the trust fund.
Sunset the tax cuts.

No, let's do what bush wants and follow his lead. Defend his attacks.

We shouldn't even consider attacking bush on other, more critical fronts.

Chess players know this tactic works like a charm every time.

18. They are not speaking up on my #1 issue: The lies that got us into Iraq.
Edited on Fri May-06-05 06:58 PM by Dr Fate
I happen to think that this more important than Micheal Freaking Bolton, Delay's golf trips, or even (GASSSP) Social Security(Flame suit on.)

That is my number one issue, and the top DEMS are silent on the new UK memo- I'm pissed, and I'll say so. Call it bashing if you want- but I'm going to keep insisting that DEMs speak up on THE most important issue- not just the safe ones.

23. you complain but offer no solutions
criticizing is not bashing, is it ???

Kerry comes out with a statement, in Louisiana yet, that the Massachusetts platform should not provide a "gay marriage" plank (contrary to the findings of the State's highest court) and those who feel discriminated against on this issue should just do what?

thank the good Senator for his keen insights and know he has their best interests at heart ??? it just doesn't work that way ...
