Did you all hear DEM Dennis K on Cspan just now? Telling TRUTH
about Social Security. He followed Liar Delay.

Dennis brought up THE TRILLION dollars that resides in the SS Trust Fund and said the truth isn't coming out.

MY STATEMENT IS..........Bush's & the GOP are merely spouting inflammatory crisis statements.

1. Unfortunately, it's working. More people now believe that 'something'
has to be done to save SS than before (see lastest polls). The truth probably is that very little is required to 'fix' SS's solvency problems. Bush keeps harping on the baby boomers, but by 2042, when the SS board says they would have to reduce benefits to 70%, most baby boomers will be dead. Even if you were born in the last few years, 1958 to 1960, you would be between 82 and 84 years old. They need to eliminate the cap and get the economy 'kicked' up, and SS will be fine as it is.

2. Dennis has a one hour DVD on social security
which is worth checking out!

--------------------------------------------------------------

Kucinich Social Security Town Hall Is One For the Books (and DVDs)

As President Bush accelerates his efforts to privatize Social Security, including several appearances where he is falsely claiming that there is no Social Security trust, Congressman Kucinich has developed an indepth presentation which you can use to create your own Town Hall meeting.

Dennis has written and produced a deeply analytical one hour DVD presentation on Social Security which is the product of over a dozen town hall meetings held throughout his district. The presentation, which is being extended into a book, is a highly critical assessment not only of the Administration's plan to privatize Social Security but also of the Administration's overall handling of the economy.

Just as Kucinich built the case that the Administration was fabricating a cause for war against Iraq, he makes the case that the need for privatization is also manufacturered. As usual, he is quite blunt in his assessments. This is the video for those who are looking for a host of arguments to refute the privatizers. More than 100 slides including charts, graphs and pictures are integrated into a fast-moving Powerpoint production.

The presentation is especially designed for a town hall format. Dennis will be available, in person, for a limited number of town hall presentations outside Ohio. He also will be available to call in to town hall meetings where the Kucinich Social Security video is shown, subject to scheduling limitations.

Social Security is the first in a series of hour-long Town Hall videos forthcoming from Kucinich. Others will focus on Energy and the Environment, the American Economy, Health Care and the Department of Peace. The Town Hall videos will become a powerful, new organizing tool for a new social and economic movement in America.

3. 1.8 trillion bucks reside in the trust fund
Some of the treasuries in the trust fund are collecting up to 6.6% interest. The CBO did not count interest when saying SS is good until 2052.

5. DK tells of the rare Mon. night Ways and Means session
to defeat his resolution to make Bu$h** accountable ...

Ways and Means Kills Inquiry into Question on Trust Fund
by the Hon. Dennis Kucinich

Last night, in a rare Monday night session, the Ways and Means
Committee of the United States House of Representative voted 22-1
against a resolution which would require the President to produce
documentation supporting his oft-repeated claim that there is no
Social Security Trust.

The action stopped a Resolution of Inquiry from proceeding to the
full House for a vote. I introduced the resolution last month after
President Bush had claimed in a meeting in New Hampshire that "there
is no Social Security trust." He has since repeated the assertion.
The implications of the President's assertions about the Social
Security trust fund are quite serious for the 48 million Americans
who currently rely on Social Security, and for those who will become
recipients in the future.
