I think I had a brainstorm about how to beat the GOP..thoughts appreciated

It's occurred to me that the 'coalition' that defines the GOP juggernaut is pretty clear; it's a marriage of business interests and religious conservatives. That's pretty obvious, I guess.

It seems to me, though, that it's the business interests that are actually in control of the agenda...this Schiavo thing is pretty clearly pandering to their conservative base, while the GOP's legislative priorities actually center around capping tort liability, removing bankruptcy protections, dropping corporate tax-rates, and deficit-financing the MI complex.

So, there's a schism between their rhetoric, and the reality of their actions.

I think that the real chink in the GOP armor is where the interests of the religious conservatives and the interests of business diverge.

What might those be? Discuss...

Now where they difer? Well those religious conservatives will not be able to sue for damages when they get hurt... that is the first chink... problem is making them understand it

3. The only way to beat the GOP is to have fair elections
And we haven't had one in 9 years.

and unethical practices in lending and charging interest of people who can't afford it, but these fundamentalist Christians pick and choose moral argument of the day.

6. I think we first need to get the ear of the press
Then from there I'm not sure.

We are definately not heard by the american people on tv. Only used by the press to frame it like they want it.

7. I've been pointing out that they are unchristian
and quoting "by their fruits shall ye know them." It packs quite a wallop. A lot of fundy types have never thought of things that way, and limit Christianity to hating abortion and gay men.

Voltaire was wrong when he said only a fool feels compelled to point out the obvious. When you're dealing with fools, it is essential to do so.

11. I like that!
I was talking to a Republican who said that Justice Kennedy screwed us when he cited other countries in delivering the deciding vote to not execute juveniles. He said that one man should not have so much power and that the SCOTUS should have a super majority to make decisions.

I agreed. Said if that was so Bush would not have had a first term and therefore not a second either.

9. My Life, My Business
Many business people are, by nature, libertarian (unless its a government subsidy or something else that helps them). So we have to hammer away at the GOP's attack on individual freedom and personal privacy.

I'd like to see every Dem have a bumper sticker that says
"Its MY Life, Not the GOP's" or "MY life, MY Business."
