The Senate Vote
I just learned that when the Senate voted on the Terry Shavio case there were only three senators on the floor. Isn't this illegal in that you have to have a quoram to hold a vote or is that only on the state level.

1. Senate passed Schiavo legislation operatiing under unanimous consent rules
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A53153-20...

The Senate, operating under unanimous-consent rules, passed the legislation yesterday afternoon with no debate and with only three members present. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.), a renowned heart surgeon, said Congress cannot force a U.S. judge to order that Schiavo's feeding tube be reinserted while the new federal case goes forward. However, he said, "I would expect that a federal judge would grant a stay under these circumstances, because Terri would need to live in order for the court to consider the case."

2. Dem Senators
Democrat Tom Harkin was one of the 3 Senators, supporting the Republican unconstitutional and unethical intrusion into a citizen's private life. The rest of our Dem. utless wonders remained home and silent on the issue, when only one of them could have stopped this and stood up like a man (woman).

Heard Larry Sabato on the radio yesterday and he said the Dems kept out of it to protect themselves, KNOWING THAT THE DEMOCRATIC VOTERS WOULD FORGET BY THE NEXT ELECTION ANYWAY. Well, guess what- I have a memory like an elephant and have no intention of ever voting for a one of them. Why bother? They are no better than the Repugs. I'll stay home first.

3. You are allowed under certain exigent circumstances I think
Edited on Tue Mar-22-05 09:33 AM by Clark Bayh 2008
to put something thru without a quorum.

It's fascinating how when it's your money, your home, your income, your tobacco smoking, or your profits, the GOP hails these as private & sacrosanct.

When it's your body, your sex life, your pot smoking, your speech or your tv, the government is entitled to poke its nose in & save you from yourself.
