Question.
Me and a couple of my friends were sitting around and drinking beer and complaining about having to go back to class tomorrow.:)
Anyway the subject of politics came up and someone asked the question do you think Al Gore would have been a better President than Bill Clinton was?

My answer was yes. I think he would have gotten more done for two reasons. Reason 1 is Al Gore wouldn't have had the sex scandals taking up all his time, (although the repubs would still be trying to bring him down). and reason 2 was he would have had 8 years of peace and prosperity to build upon unlike President Clinton who had to try to repair the damage of 12 years of republicans trying to destroy our country.

So now I am wondering how you guys would answer this question so please add your two cents. Thank you.

1. Yes.
As a matter of fact, Al Gore was trying to be nominated by the Dems at least one election before Clinton. This is not why he would be better, but it illustrates the fact that he was working toward this ahead of Clinton. I believe Gore is much smarter than Clinton, and as you stated, there would have been less distraction. Clinton had people trying to seriously undermine him before he was even elected.

2. Not to say
That Al Gore wouldn't have had the same repub attack machine going after him but, they wouldn't have had the sex angle. So that might have made AL Gore more effective.

3. one has to make it into office to even be president, good or bad
so the question is irrelevant. Shirley Chisom might have been a better president than Bill Clinton. So might Jesse Jackson or Ralph Nader. The fact is none of them ever made it.

8. I never liked Gore
and I didn't vote for him, so I tend to think not. Who knows though. One can never predict what might have happened in a hypothetical past.

6. Al Gore had more progessive ideas...
...but I think that because he is not as gifted at playing the political game, he may not have gotten as much accomplished.
He would have been an excellent president either way.

7. One of my buddies said the same thing.
He said how that although AL Gore would have been a great president he just didn't have the charisma and the knowledge of the political game that President Clinton did.

10. I agree
I think Mr. Gore is great and is a very smart guy. He would've been great. As would Kerry. I think the problem is the people didn't get to know them as the supporters in general did. Clinton had more press then the other two did. Mr. Gore would probably have tons of ways to improve the economy even more, he wouldn't have ignored the Usama BinLaden stuff either since he already had experience with that with Clinton, he would've created even more jobs with security and other things of course and made education even better. We also wouldn't have this ridiculous Terri Schavio thing going on I bet. I dream about that all the time. *sigh*
