Sen. Byrd's speech today repeated tonight
on C-Span2 around 8:40 p.m. He spoke about the "nuclear option" on filibusters.. It was excellent and really worth watching. He said that because there is a majority in the Senate does not mean they represent a majority of the people.

Tonight: C-Span2

· All Times Are Tentative Due to U.S. Senate
· News Briefing with P.M. Blair & Palestinian Authority Pres. Abbas (8pm)
· Sen. Byrd (D-WV) on Judicial Nominations and Use of Filibuster (8:40pm)
· Check C-SPAN.org for Schedule Updates

1. Good for Sen Byrd
You know how he is on the rules.

The rethugs need to know in their hearts there will be holy hell to pay if they resort to this. Reid, et al need to make it clear this will mean total, and all-out war. Whenever Dems get back into the majority, they need to stuff it down their throats if it comes to that.

2. Yesterday morning, I heard that
Capitol Hill reporter on C-Span say that Senator Byrd will be leading the charge against this nuclear option. I would say that he really gave it a good start. After his speech, stupid Orin Hatch got up to criticize what he said. Orin said that never before have judicial nominations been filibustered. Yeah, that's because the Repukes never let them get out of Committee.

5. PDF of Senator Byrd
http://www.pfaw.org/pfaw/dfiles/file_502.pdf

for those who are unable to watch.

He reminds all that the Senate is not majority rule. You could have a majority vote of senators from 30 of the smallest states that represent only 24% of the electorate. He turns the tables on the GOP to point out FDR was stopped from stacking the courts.
