Ladies, on Valentiens day, any interest in this sexist conservative?
Edited on Mon Feb-14-05 01:22 PM by RedSox02
I just caught this in the Letters section of Worldnetdaily. It caused me to spit out my lunch. This is the kind of guy I hope my daughter finds. What a keeper.

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/letters.asp

Mr. Farah, I am writing you about your recent article about why young men are not joining the military. I do not know if my story is common or not, but I will first tell you that I am a devout born-again Christian. In 1996, after graduating from college, I went to sign up for the Marines along with a college friend who is also a Christian.

At the recruiters' office, I found out something I was glad I discovered prior to joining. What I found out is that female soldiers were permitted to hold positions of authority, such as a drill sergeant, and that I could be forced to have to salute women and even follow their orders. Of course, when I found this out I quickly declined and so did my friend, as we did not want to be forced to violate our Christian faith and biblical principals.

If the military is going to force Christian men to violate their faith and if it is going to engage in religious oppression, than I simply am unable to join. I don't know how many other born-again Christian men have refused to join the military for the same reason, but am sure I am not the only one.

The Bible is clear that men were put in authority over women, and they are responsible for not violating or abusing that responsibility. I would gladly defend my country, women and children with my life, but I could not do so in a military that engages in Christian oppression.

Richard

Hurry ladies, guys like this don't stay single for long.

8. OH man you made me spit again!
I never thought of that. What a great question! What kind of mother figure did this guy have growing up? I can just picture his diary now.

July 10.

Today was a very sad day. FIrst momma tried to tell me to finish eating my peas before I could go outside and play. Daddy had to reach back and slap momma good and set her straight. Then after dinner, we said good bye to my sis as daddy sent her off into slavery as suggested in the bible.

3. Sounds like he couldn't bring himself to pretend
to be gay to get out of serving, so he came up with this BS reason. God help the woman who does marry him if he really believes this.

4. Notice how he twisted it?
Christian oppression?

Interesting comparison to the mindset of the fundamentalist Muslem -- of course, they run an all male system (although do encourage women to be martyrs, although why they'd want a passle of virgins, I dunno).

12. Kind of makes you wonder
If the women still do it, the WHAT or WHO makes them do it? I know they don't have a 72 stud rule for them. I'm sure of it.

5. That's Bizzare...
Nowhere in the Bible does it say a man can't be subordinate to a woman except in the household where a woman submits to her husband's leadership and even most Christian don't take that command literally...

9. Not really right
I've read this a lot and am Christian myself. God wants men and women to be seen as equal. Yes, back then they were over the wives and househould but in the Bible it teaches that we're both equal and are supposed to share the responsibility of marriage and raising the family and not just the man a lone. Women are also supposed to have a say in what happens with the family and not just take orders.

11. There Is A Verse- Collosians 3-18
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.

Two small points...

Most folks don't take the Bible literally as if it was a manual that comes with your automobile...

And the knucklehead in the original post said the Bible forbids him from following a lawful order given to him by a female military superior...

16. What about a female cop
Would this guy also feel "discriminated against" if he were pulled over by a female police officer? Would he quit a job if he had a female boss? The world isn't long for this guy. If he is real, which I am going to assume he is.

18. I guess we're just supposed to laugh at guys like this but
it's really starting to get to me. This is 2005, right?

Alot of folks even here just yuk-yuk this guy away but as a woman, I live in a world where some (and given how they're coming out of the wood-work lately, many) people really think this way about me and women in general. It's supposed to be ok because lots of other people think this guy's a 'moran' but it's not ok - it's personal.

I'm a real person with real feelings, real hopes, real skills and there are people out there who think I'm "inferior". It really worries me about my future and the future of our young women.

But don't worry, we all here think it's funny because we think he's an idiot. You know, just because folks like this are trying to run the country doesn't mean I should take it too seriously or anything.

19. It's funny as it's either a paraody or coverup for cowardness
I tend to agree with the person who posted that they thought this was a parody or a put-on. First of all, every young person has got to be aware that there are women in the Armed Forces. Between movies, television, games, and the news -- one would have to be pretty deep in the woods to be unaware of of the changes caused since Nam and the all new volunteer army.

Secondly, I entered the work force in 1962 and have seen a lot of improvements slowly won over the years that treat women better and more equal in the workforce. Is the job done? No! Just continue working towards the goal of genuine equality.

I used to joke back in the 70s that equal pay would probably mean that they'd drop men's pay to equal women's pay. Unfortunately, in this sicko world, this proved to be reality.

Back in the early 80s, I had some direct interactions with a Comptroller of the Construction company where I worked. He was ranting on about "the girls" in the office. I stopped him and said, "Dan, I am nearly old enough to be your mother -- I am only a girl if you'd like to be referred to as a boy. Additionally, all of the other women who work here are either peers to your age or older than you -- the same goes for them." He stammered and turned bright red. He slipped once -- and looked at me guiltily and apologized.

You have to work for what you want and if it is literally impossible where you are, maybe it is time to move to a bigger community within shouting distance of home (so that you can attend home gatherings, etc.)

No, I don't think genuine sexist behavior is funny all the time; however, I've gotten one heck of a lot of laughter out of the Gannon hypocrisy scandal. Find humor as it comes your way, it's an easier way to live.

23. Read his quote though
"What I found out is that female soldiers were permitted to hold positions of authority, such as a drill sergeant, and that I could be forced to have to salute women and even follow their orders."

He seems to be saying he had no idea female soldiers could be promoted to positions of authority. This implies he knew female soldiers existed and perhaps looked forward to ordering them around as usual. Of course it could still all be BS, but I still get a kick out of it. And Ladies don't worry, I understand how this can upset some of you, and when/if I have a daughter, I will certainly be out there protecting her from creeps like this. Or at least trying in whatever way I can.
