Dear Republicans,
Edited on Sun Feb-13-05 12:20 PM by Horse with no Name
We have decided that enough is enough. NO longer will we let you decide to twist and turn our principals and beliefs into talking points for you and your Stepford followers. We are putting you on notice that as of right now, WE WILL DECIDE what message we intend on putting out to the public...you won't decide.
I know this is going to be difficult for your lockstep believers to follow..and most assuredly difficult for that idiot you installed to follow, so therefore, being the party of compassion, we decided to give you a "heads up".
To start with, "Pro Choice" and "Pro Life"? Those are your slogans. YOU talk about them because we refuse to anymore. All they do is convey the moral confusion that your party requires to operate.
We are going to put our beliefs in what we call "Pro Individual".
Try to pigeon hole that one--it's almost impossible without you looking like the spin doctors that you are.
Our "Pro Individual" stance covers our compassion for fellow man and the rights that are guaranteed to them.
We believe in family and children more than our neoconservative nemesis, and we believe in taking care of the family from the cradle to the grave. We support those social programs that you detest so much. The system may need to be tweaked a little, but certainly throwing the baby out with the bathwater is an extreme decision.
We believe that every person has the right to decide what to do with their body. We won't interfere with your medical decisions and we won't decide if you are too fat or too thin. You have the choice to wear what clothes you want, have whatever medical procedures you want, weigh what you want. Love who you want. It's your choice and our government is not going to ever legislate those decisions for you. Furthermore, we aren't even going to debate it. You make your decisions and let your neigbors make theirs. End of discussion.
We believe in the life of every world citizen. We won't trot off to other countries exterminating others for our gain. In a civilized society as we are, we realize that death doesn't accomplish much, so we are going to align ourselves with the rest of the world and abolish the death penalty. We aren't going to support torture of other human beings, and we will work for a peaceful world--not a war torn world.
We believe in healthcare for all of our citizens. It is appalling that our country's medical advances are out of reach for a strikingly high number of our citizens. You will find that most don't want a hand-out, they just need a helping hand. A healthy society is a happier society. Too many of our citizens face financial ruin when catastrophic illnesses or accidents occur.
The only ones benefitting from our current system are the corporations--the medical community is not better served nor are our citizens. That has to change.
We believe in fiscal responsibility. Your trickle-down policies have proven not to work. In theory, you give the wealthy tax breaks and they provide jobs--well, in reality you give the wealthy tax cuts and they send our jobs to Bangladesh. It's not working--send it to the junk pile. Your rich friends will have to find another way to make money--maybe they will need to actually invest in our country and our people.
You and your buddies sit there in Washington seeking ways to dismantle our country and sell it off to the highest bidder.
We are putting you on notice that we won't go gently into the night--we will fight you tooth and nail to prevent you from turning us into a third world country.
Millions have died from the American Revolution to now to preserve our country. It is our duty to make sure that they didn't die so that you and your benefactors can line their pockets while raping the coffers of this country.
We won't stand for it. We are putting you on notice.

Sincerely,
Concerned Citizens of America

4. Horse is the name of
Dudley DoRight's Horse, so I was just making an obscure joke. BTW, you can edit titles of posts as long as it has not been more than an hour since you made the post. Just click on your own post and click edit at the bottom right.

7. Good luck!!
Do you suppose the Repukes are going to just roll over and die? Do you really think that the voters don't know what the issues are? Do you think the Repukes will cease to "explain" our positions for us?

'Cause I don't.

But good luck.

8. I understand where you are coming from but
Why should the Dem's just roll over and die because they refuse to?
And yes...I believe that the majority of red state voters in particular do NOT know the issues. I have talked with people who voted but didn't realize what is at stake. There are many many out there who still believe that OBl and SH were "in cahoots", there are many that still believe that WMD were found in Iraq, there are many that believe that Social Security is in imminent danger of failing. They aren't all bad people but they are ignorant and believe Bushcon.
I don't believe that the Repukes will stop trying to define our message--but that doesn't mean we have to let them succeed.

Have a nice day.

9. You have a nice day, too.
However, I think we are making a mistake when we think that the "red" voters do not know the issues. I think we do, and that they disagree with us.

Every election I see the same thing, hear the same thing about how we need to get our message out there, the voters agree with us. Then, we get our asses handed to us with a great big grin on the faces of the Repukes. If we are trying to get our message out; it is getting out.

Now, what do I think ought to be done about it? With the understanding that I am not a political professional, this is my opinion. We need to draw back some, move to the middle on the social issues, and stop trying to use the courts to get what we cannot achieve politically. I think Roe v. Wade energized the right in a way that was totally unexpected. In other words, our candidates should be, well, Joe Leiberman. But the grass-roots could continue to try to educate the people and hope to turn the country left.

But you and I both know that that is not going to happen. So, Plan B is this, go far left. Run a Green as Democratic nominee. Make a sharp distinction between Dems and Repukes. One so sharp even the MSM cannot disguise the difference. If what most people on this board think is true, we will win a landslide. I think we will suffer a massive, crushing defeat similar to the one Goldwater suffered in 1964. But then, when we are on the bottom, there is no where else left to go but up, just like the Rs did. We will be forced to determine what is important in our agenda, and what is not. We will be unified, which is something we've not been for a long time.

I would be happy to be wrong in this scenario. We'll find out in 2008 which way we will go.

Cheers:)

10. More elitism
Yes, the great unwashed masses are ignorant and all "we" have to do is educate them. Right?

No, wrong. Most Americans know exactly what is going on. They are not stupid. It's just that the military industrial complex has it's heal at their throats and two stolen elections later there isn't much left of our once great country.

11. LOL@elitism
I suppose I am "one of the unwashed masses from the red states", but I am strictly speaking of my experience in some of the people that I have met and most people do NOT know whats going on.
You go to the larger cities, it's not as prevalent, but in the rural areas (where I live) these people DO NOT KNOW the issues unless they are on FAUX news.
I have physically spoken with people who say some of the most ridiculous things because they "heard it on the TV".
You can criticize and call me names all day long, I could care less.
I'm a bitch. But I'm not an elitest bitch.

14. The idea that the general public is ignorant of the facts...
but on the other hand "we" are the ones with all of the wisdom is surely elitist, and as long as we have that attitude we will continue to lose. We have got to stop talking down to people.

13. Wonderful Rant
Please send it to Dr. Dean.

Btw: I agree with you about people not knowing the issues. I live in the caucasian infested middle/upper middle class suburbs and most here can tell you the judges name Jacko's trial but would'nt know Wolfowitz from Barney Fife. They know what new video games are coming out, what their kids shoud wear to fit in, the latest in flat screen tvs but could not find Iraq on an unmarked world map...

And for the most part, these are boomers who enjoyed some of the best high schools in the country and most are college educated. They got theirs and they want more toys, why should they bother their beautiful minds...
