Edited on Thu Feb-10-05 02:33 PM by KoKo01
The name Gannon kept bothering me, like ringing a bell. This may be totally off the wall but the coincindence of the name Gannon... Maybe the name Gannon just flew out of a hat for Gurkert...but don't they say "criminals use aliases" which mean something to them?

Conason's article, connection to Swift Boat Liars, Department of Justice Employees, Elections Investigations and International dealings in Asia, plus Florida, Alexandria, Virginia and other places by Gannon International is very interesting..

Vietnam Investor Behind ''Swift Boat Vets'' Attack
Date: Tuesday, May 18 @ 10:00:00 EDT
Topic: Politics

The group attacking Kerry for his antiwar record is backed by a wealthy veteran who's profiting from his business ties to the Communist regime.

When the "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth" launched its campaign against John Kerry 10 days ago, leadership and guidance were provided by Republican activists and presidential friends from Texas -- notably Houston attorney John E. O'Neill and corporate media consultant Merrie Spaeth. Indeed, although the group made its debut at a press conference in Washington, it looked and sounded like a Texas GOP operation.

On closer inspection, the ostensibly nonpartisan "Swift Boat Vets" seem to have another pair of significant sponsors with deep and long-standing Republican connections in Missouri. Both are officers of Gannon International, a St. Louis conglomerate that does lots of overseas business in, of all places, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

Ties to Gannon can be traced via the Swift Boat Vets Web site (as an alert reader advised me last week). On April 14, the site was registered under the name of Lewis Waterman, Gannon's information technology manager, at 11301 Olive Boulevard in St. Louis, the firm's headquarters address. Although Waterman wouldn't discuss why he had set up the Web site, he didn't deny that his boss, Gannon president and CEO William Franke, had asked him to do so.

(snip)

While neither Franke nor Hayes returned calls seeking confirmation of their roles in the Swift Boat Veterans organization, it seems obvious that Waterman wouldn't have set up the group's Web site using Gannon's corporate address without approval from his employers.

The Gannon International initiative and the Gannon International team continue to expand… both in the depth and in the scope of expertise and abilities. Each year, new initiatives and new partners, associates and friends are added, ensuring the continued dynamic… but prudently managed…growth of the Gannon International organization.

3. I read alot of mysteries. The connections often are interesting..
And, having been on DU for awhile, I find that odd connections that don't "seem" to go anywhere, often prove to be important. This may be dead end..but it's curious.

5. I'm not discrediting the theory, just making a pun.
Theorize on. The same time of research that leads to dead ends also leads to great discoveries, it's just that no one mentions the former while being praised for the latter.

12. "Here's a lst of their offices". Bullshit, that's a list...
... of companies with the name "Gannon" in them. If you wish use the phrase "their offices", please show how these companies are all related (apart from the letters "g", "a", "n" "o" and the number "4"... Elmo says "Hi").

There have been many threads on DU in my short tenure that go completely tangential like this, based solely on coincidental names, paranoia and self-deluded analytical capability: e.g., the entire "companies that share the name Triad" conspiracy and that computer company with a CEO that shot himself whose name was similar to some BBV company (I forget what it was, as it was truly asinine).

I really, really, hate faith-based analysis like this. If you can demonstrate a connection, then please do so. Making this kind of sexed-up conjecture will result in innocent people getting tarred and/or a huge waste of precious resources chasing wild geese. (cf. Richard Jewel.)

9. I don't know. I threw it out because I , too, thought there was something
there, kind of fascinating, but either the "Kossacks" already have it, or we here are too tired to go after it. I did a little Googling it would take more to connect all the names and even then we might not make the connection.

In my gut...I think it's there, but then we know that it's all tied together in one big entity anyway...those of us who've watched it for so long. Until the "internet" it was hard to piece it together.

Still, Conason's article is interesting about Gannon. A nasty "Holding Company" which sure sounds like party of the problem. My Googling came up with so many connections to the Campaign Against Kerry it was hard not to see them as part of the VAST REPUG CONSPIRACY. :-( I couldn't get the tie to Gurkert thought. It would need a deeper search that others may have already done.

10. That was my thought exactly
I was on the Kos site the Saturday or Sunday (can't remember) this whole thing started cooking two weeks ago. And while I wasn't involved with the major research, that night all of us were throwing out ideas from Google searches, hoping something would flesh out. Mainly trying to find out who the guy really was.

I went to FR and read all of Jeff Gannon's posts that night, and they mostly seemed to center on three things: the Dashle race, anti-John Kerry/Swift Boat, and Rather-gate. I found the Gannon International/Swift Boat link to be extremely curious, but they were more focused on linking him to the Plame story and went in that direction instead.

Still, considering that Gannon (the man) was apparently peripherally involved with not only the expose of the Rather memo, the Swift Boat smears, and potentially the Plame issue....all of those smears have Rove written all over them. Okay, so I also happened to watch "Bush's Brain" that weekend, which probably made me predisposed to see it that way, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if it turns out that Gannon (and others connected to FR) were acting on Rove's behalf.

How DID FR get that Rather memo that fast to be able to determine it was a forgery so quickly? Maybe because they had it before Rather did and was told by the leaker that it was forged? And how exactly does a guy with no real journalistic connections get not only a White House press pass, but also gets to see a classified CIA memo?

Rove did cut his political teeth during the '72 Nixon campaign after all, and I've even read that he was the one who leaked the story on the Bush DUI during the 2000 campaign - only, to a source he knew would be discredited. Destroy the messenger, and the message is lost. That fits exactly with the way the Rathergate thing went down - the memo was leaked to Bill Burkett, who everyone knew had a jones to bring Bush down over the National Guard story, only he didn't have a smoking gun. It would be a political act of genius to provide him with one (in the form of an ever-so-subtly forged memo), and then also leak it to the guys on your side to discredit not only the memo, but the messenger (Burkett) and the mouthpiece (Rather) at the same time.

To paraphrase the line from the movie "All the President's Men" - If you guys could get Rove, that would be beautiful!" A job for DU?

11. Yes...good thoughts you have. It's all connected in a spider web.

I think the MSM know we are onto it, but are watching figuring they can head us off at every pass (Old Western Movie talk here..:D) but I think that all of this is KNOWN by the "Inside the Beltway Crowd and DC Media" it's just very hard for us to really get the pieces into place when there are so many. So, it's easy for MSM to sidetrack us and throw a blanket over any of our "internet investigations" by discrediting us, or fluffing us off.

I know I could Google for days everyone of the Board Members at Gannon and do multiple searches with Eberle and Gurkert and a few other names from Conason's article. But, where would it go? I have to hope the Kos folks will come up with it since they have a dedicated team.

But this Gannon International sounds like a very seedy bunch to me. Definitely a companyyyy that's been up to dirty work with tentacles in places that one would think wouldn't make sense for a single company to get into and stay financially sound. And, that Conason posted about them, means he hoped it would go somewhere, too. Obviously, it didn't for him.

So many of these companies funding these folks. It's really overwhelming.

13. Agree on the eternal Googling
and no way do I personally have the time. Just trying to throw the gauntlet out there in the hope that someone might be inspired to take up the challenge.

Hopefully, the Kos team will come up with something concrete, they've got the bug and are extremely focused. It's a beautiful thing to observe, even if you can't contribute personally.
