4. Old news. This article has been posted on DU about 10 times a day
since it was published on the 4th. Just about anything Palast writes is posted here before the ink is dry.

You're a relative newbie here. You really owe it to DU to check first to see it something is already posted. Next time try a search on "Palast".

BTW - welcome to DU.

5. This kind of thing is bugging me to
And people keep posting that Florida county spreadsheet over and over to. Why don't people check out some of the threads before they post? Arghhh!

8. Sorry. I went by your low post count.
The best way to avoid having jerks like me make that mistake is to donate to DU and get that little star next to your moniker. :)

7. provisional ballots not the answer
As much as I would like to believe that Ohio could go to Kerry, I didn't find that article convincing. I don't think we can count on the discarded votes... they were discarded for a reason, presumably due to an "undervote" or an accidental vote for multiple candidates ("overvote"???). That leaves the provisional ballots. I did some math and figured out that Kerry would need at least 94% of the provisional ballots to go his way. That is assuming that 100% of the provisional ballots will be judged legitimate. Even if the majority of the provisional ballots are for Kerry, as the article suggests, I find it difficult to believe that 94% of them are for Kerry.

I still hold on to the hope that Ohio could go for Kerry... there are enough reports of questionable things going on, like the county that had more votes for Bush than there were voters... So I'm not trying to say abandon hope. I'm simply saying that it's a mistake to think that provisional ballots alone will get us what we want.

9. 94%? It happens.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - A proposal that opens the door to slot machines at race tracks and jai alai frontons in South Florida won approval Thursday, avoiding a possible recount after elections officials in Broward County discovered thousands of absentee votes missed in an electronic tally on Election Day.

The batch of 79,000 absentee ballots were added to the tally Thursday - and the vast majority of them were in favor. That made all the difference.

State and local elections officials said the ballot oversight was because of human error in computer programming, not a technical glitch. A leader of No Casinos said opponents would ask Broward County for a recount anyway, but Secretary of State Glenda Hood said that wasn't possible under state law.
>snip<

Opponents had held a lead of about 1,000 votes until the batch of votes from Broward "fell out of the sky," said Rep. Randy Johnson, a central Florida Republican who chairs No Casinos. Johnson pointed out that 94 percent of the Broward votes added Thursday were in favor and he questioned the statistical probability of that ratio.

11. Point well taken
I'm quite ammused that you were able to find an example that matched the number exactly. You are very right, we really don't know what is going to be the outcome.

BTW, this is a fun way to interact with other monkeys!!! I'm glad I have this forum to battle the inevitable depression following last week...

12. Hang this
I tell you something. I can face one more hanging chad. Blackwell is on record as saying, before the election no less, we will be the next Florida- because the dirty little secret is those dirty unkempt punchcards machines are still widely used in Democratic precincts in Ohio. Throwing out 90,000 votes due to spoilage ups the supposed margin shich means why not throw out the rest of the votes.
Now that Peterson's history I want us to make the O.J.trial look like a day at the beach.
