5. Graphics ...
Edited on Wed Nov-03-04 12:03 PM by YDogg
... I know it's not much, but make and use graphics to make and press your point. The "Internets" is a powerful distribution method.

http://tinypic.com/ftixe

I also envision an 8.5" x 11" flyer of * in front of a nazified American flag, with "Thanks for Votin', Morans!" across the bottom. Left on post office tables, in gov't buildings, etc.

Brings a smile to my face just thinking of the possibilities. Be relentless. And disrespectful. Why the fugg not?

All of it. This doesn't erase his 9/11 fuck-ups. This doesn't erase the Iraq invasion. This doesn't erase the AWOL. It's all still there...just keep pushing it...I know I will.

8. have an abortion, go gay, refuse to go to church, join wicca
You know be an evil god hating immoral liberal. I say lets keep the rates of abortion climbing. Lets get the homosexual population over 10% and every one stop going to church. These were the issues that motivated the right wing, this is why they wanted GW. So guy's go gay, gals get knocked up. And all stop going to church, become an active wicca member. Quick aside in all honesty if your a Roman Catholic you may wish to write or speak to your parish priest and tell them that due to political differences, and your refusal to become a hypocrite in order to accept communion you can no longer in good conscience stay a member of the church.

9. Copied from another thread....
And sorry for the dupe, but I really want this info out there:

Here's what we do. We hit 'em where it hurts - anti-consumerism. There are so many people on this site alone, but we're widely scatterd, so we gotta organize - but it can be done. If possible, try to move within proximity of each other, so we can help each other out directly. Lower your dependence on power companies and big business. Get off the grid. Neighbors can pitch in to buy solar panels, a bit at a time. (I know, the starting cost is prohibitive....) If you own a farm or a garden plot, share your produce. Or patronize farmer's markets rather than big grociery stores. Use the barter system. Are you a doctor, lawyer, electrician, plumber? Barter your services. Need something for your home? Ask on DU if someone's throwing it away. Join Freecycle.org in your community ... or better yet, can we start a Freecycle/Barter forum here on this site? More and more, we can pull back from supportig the big business that's the heart and soul of the republican money machine, and learn to support each other. Not only will we undercut them, we'll help ourselves to a better life at the same time. And the real beauty of such a system: even a republican can join and make use of it, and whether or not they agree with our ideology, the mere act of using this system, helps us and hurts them (while helping that individual person ... an appeal to their base self-interest).

Another thought: home schooling. I know, I know ... when you hear "home schooling," you automatically think "right-wing wacko anti-science fundamentalist." But believe me, if I had human children, I would never subject them to our school system. Let's raise the next generation to be discerning thinkers with an interest in the world, rather than zombies who allow television talking heads to tell them what to think. Rethugs can steal elections and influence people because PEOPLE ARE STUPID. And we know the rethugs have every vested interest in keeping them that way. Let's raise our own generation in contrast. Anyone here qualified to teach, and could offer their services to local DUers?

And, to put my time where my mouth is: this is what I can offer at this point in time (with more to come in the future). I'm a web designer, computer graphics artist, and an Ebay seller. I can help you get rid of your excess clutter. My educational background is in zoology, so I'm an animal person; I can watch your pets when you're on vacation. Dogs, cats, reptiles, fish, birds, arachnids, horses, exotics ... I've probably had experience with them all. I'm in central Ohio (blech), so these are mostly local offers, of course. What am I looking for in trade? Well ... I'm nervously keeping watch on a leaking furnace at the moment. And I have an endless ability to screw up my computer - which is running fine at the moment, but it's only a matter of time....

Everyone here has some skill or resource that they can barter to someone else.

At the same time, I'm not advocating a withdrawal from the rest of the world. I just want us not to be dependant on the rest of the world. From that position of power, where they can't turn the screws on us, we need to keep fighting. Right now, we need to be swinging into action to IMPEACH the scumbag pResident. Prove LIHOP - we know the info is out there. Prove election fraud. This nonsense about Dubya winning Florida in 2000 by 500-some votes, that we keep seeing? We know that's not true. He actually lost Florida once all the votes were counted. Why didn't we say so at every opportunity?
Keep pushing the memes. The other side wants to use fear tactics? Big bad Osama? Well, here's a fear tactic for our side, and it's a legitimate one: we're now under a very real threat of nuclear war. Insane fundamentalists have siezed the reins of power in our country, and there's not an iota of difference between them, and someone crazy enough to blow themselves up in a crowded mall. Actually no, scratch that. The difference is that our home-grown fanatics have the ability to destroy the whole planet.

Get our people into every local government position from the ground up, starting with the school boards. How many of us here are qualified to run for office, any office? Probably more than we think. The next local elections are, what, two years away now? We need to start grooming each other for them now.

Hammer the truth. Rethugs win in part because they're willing to say anything, do anything, make up the most heinous lies and smear tactics. For a moment sometime this morning, I thought that we need to start doing the same thing. John Kerry is a statesman, and statesmen don't go around saying "fuck yourself" - nor do they invent lies about their opponants. I'm not saying he should have. But then I see how we've played above board, and it hasn't been enough.... But, no. No selling our soul for the sake of power, or we become just like them. And then there's no one left to speak for those that need a voice. We have to keep hammering the truth, but we have to do it less politely. Don't say "spreading misinformation." Say "lying." Tell it like it is. Take an example from Howard Dean. We need to stop being so statesmanlike, and start getting down and dirty - while still never caving in on our own integrity.

15. Very, very good!
That's exactly how I feel. Start boycotting the chains. Start organizing community schools, with a barter system to pay teachers. Live simple and frugal lives wen it comes to material things. It's good for the earth and good for the spirit, and it'll hit these rethuglicans right where it counts, their wallets!

13. How to make our voices heard.
I usually only lurk but now is the time for action.
1. Bring the economy down by not buying as little as possible especially those items from corporate interest. It is still the economy we just have to make it show.
2. Support locals, cooperatives, the barter system or whatever for your daily needs.
3. Stop watching corporate media that includes things like sports and entertainment shows. They depend on add revenue, nothing like disastrous revenue to bring a change.
4. Run for local office, even the proverbial dog catcher. All politics is local.
5. Make our issues heard and in our words. (examples follow)
a. It is not about abortion it is about protecting a women's health. Making abortion illegal will not make it go away, a good example is prohibition did not stop drinking. Abortion numbers decrease when women's health care and services for poor women with children increase.
b. The issue is tolerance not gay rights. For all you people who know a lot more about Christianity than I do give us talking points about not judging, turning the other cheek, and loving thy neighbor. Do not let people beat us over the head with their bibles. Remember that many religious leaders were instrumental in the civil right movement; we must bring that side of Christianity to rally around our causes.
c. Stop talking about the middle class and start talking about the poor. We must bring the poor and disenfranchised to the table. These are the silent majorities that could lead to a progressive America. One out of every 5 children in this country live in poverty. That is an easy statistic to blast away about.
d. Hammer home the point that many working people live in poverty.
e. Make the environment a central issue. Many suburban Republicans lean left on environmental issues.
f. Peace is an enormous moral issue. We are in a perpetual state of war make people understand this.
6. People with children become very active in your schools. Prevent the Christian right ideology from becoming a hidden subject.
7. Encourage Democratic office holders to take hard lines. People admire this in Bush even when they think he is wrong.
8. Encourage senate Dem's to hold up all actions with delaying tactics. Read cookbooks whatever, try not to let anything come to the floor. Vote in one block against all bills that do make it to the floor.

How I am going to implement these things.
1. Stop eating in restaurants.
2. Will not attend Cincinnati Reds games. (owned by Linder a big contributor to the Republican party)
3. Put off all purchases beyond essential needs.
4. Shop organic and farmer's markets.
5. Cease watching TV. I already do not watch much.
6. I am in Symmes township in Loveland Ohio and am willing to run for any local office if people will point me in the right direction.
7. Start daily writing campaign to local papers and office holders with detailed rebuttals on the "issue of the day".
8. Give donations to important charities rather than Christmas gifts.

Come on people. We may have lost the battle but we can win the war!

Land, Peace and Bread

16. Is there a resource for who we should support...
business wise? Locally I belong to an organic community supported agriculture farm where we get produce, eggs, meat, bread etc but I still need to buy clothes, furniture, cars, etc.

I feel so strongly I don't want to spend a nickel anywhere that has Bush supporters.

20. Buy "used"...
I've found some great clothes at thrift stores (and have noticed lots of middle-class shoppers at these stores, which says something about Chimpy's economic policies). Used furniture from a consignment shop? Buy a late model used car? This is do-able.

17. This might just be being nasty, but what's good for the
goose and all. The right makes a big deal about moral values for people working with the young. The twins have a rap sheet and (according to the local papers) are in the local bars well after closing time. Should these women be working with young children?

18. List of Rethug Contributors
There's a web site somewhere, where you can plug in people's names to see who they contributed to, politically. I thought I had the link here somewhere ... am still looking. Anyone have it handy?

There's got to be a list of stores/businesses/brand names somewhere as well, and who they support. If we must spend money in this economy, let it be to progressive-owned businesses.

19. And another thing: media
Right-wing nutjobs have made an affluent living for 12 years by spreading their filth. Why shouldn't our spokespeople make an affluent living by spreading the truth? And doing it aggressively, and in a way that entertains the masses. I know, we've already got some great examples ... but we need more.

I admit to never having listened to Air America. Not much of a radio person. But we need to generate more like this. And the big prize: a television network. What's the status?
