The freeper meltdown goes on!

Now some see a 269-269 as a likely or best case scenario.

Some quotes:

"Take a look at this. If you add up the averages of the ways the states would go now, and take the tied states and count them the way momentium is going, they add up to 269 each. Keep in mind a tie would be decided in the House and almost certainly add up to a Bush win."

"You think either side has a "mandate" now???

In case you haven't noticed, this country is polarized in a 50/50 split. It's about who can make the laws, not who has a "mandate". NOBODY has a mandate."

"I'm cautiously optimistic that Bush is gonna win on Tuesday (51%/280EV`s-46%/258EV`s). But its downright foolish for FReepers to predict a landslide victory for the President. And if massive Democrat registration increases equate to massive Democrat turnout, it could be bad news for Bush."

"269 is still a win. Bush doesn't need a mandate. He never had one to begin with and even if he gets 300+ ECV, the Dems and libs will still consider him an illegitimate president."

And finally, the rare find of a reasonable freeper (note he puts CO in play but not MI):

"Averaging these polls makes the assumption that all these polls are of equal value, but they aren't. Some polls are far more reliable than others. Nearly all of the battleground states are within the margin of error. The only poll that will count will be the one on November 2. It's all about which party can get out the vote in Ohio, Florida, Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, Colorado, and Pennsylvania"

4. Hi Mercutio!
Long time no see!

I'm off to Ohio tomorrow to stump for Kerry, and to drive tons of young and old voters to the polls.

Send lawyers guns and money...

8. Dayton
It's a Repub town, but I called the Cinci ACT people and they said they need people in Dayton more than in Cinci or Columbus.

My dad went to school there 50 years ago. He's thrilled that I'm going. My brother and his wife are flying out from NY as well.

15. Yes, and absolutely!
I'm in Cleveland and I'm off work after Tuesday at 2:00pm until Saturday afternoon (except for Phantom tickets Wednesday night). I'm definitely celebrating!

3. What about the * elector in WV, he said he'll vote for Dick Cheney
as a protest?

That would make the Electoral College:
Kerry 269
Bush 268
Cheney 1

A win for Kerry if the elector stays to his word.

13. What a chilling statement...

In case you haven't noticed, this country is polarized in a 50/50 split. It's about who can make the laws, not who has a "mandate". NOBODY has a mandate.

In other words: "It's not about the will of the people. It's about us having the power to jam our agenda down everyone else's throat." Goebbels or Stalin couldn't have put it better.

16. He's inarticulate and mostly wrong

A majority for a challenger is a mandate. Not necessarily one for implementation of the challenger's agenda, but definitely one to reverse/counter the incumbent's.

I think the fellow has a hazy notion of 'mandate' and such, but he's unintentionally right that a Republican-controlled Congress represents the Will Of The People too. It has a 'mandate' of making a President Kerry prove (and improve) and sell the Democratic agenda to The People fully. I think that he'll have a demonstrable majority in 48 hours, which is a very substantial argument when dealing with a Congress which has ratings in the low 40s.

So the freepazoid has half a clue, but not a full one.

The People seems willing to suffer this Hastert/DeLay/Frist version of a corrupt and dysfunctional Congress for a little while longer, even if the net cost is a trillion dollars. It's not out of love of them, it's because of the higher standard The People imposes on the Democratic Party. It's a kind of compliment of the insecure- the DP is the one that has to be reliable, able to provide good government, understand all the real problems, fix the things that are painful to fix about the society. As the party of the adults it has to meet adult measure.

The People knows that when it tosses out these Republicans, the Democrats are going to try to set the society on a sound foundation- pour the concrete- which will come at a far greater investment of social capital. The People wants some more time to see the plans and check the math and look at samples. Then it'll bounce the Party of Mental Teenagers out of control of Congress.
