Kerry can still talk about Check 21 and abortion
First, the Check 21

http://www.federalreserve.gov/paymentsystems/truncation/default.htm
means that checks will clear almost immediately, no more relying on "floating" days. OK, this was in the making. Since the beginning of the year I would have several checks that cleared electronically and were not sent back to me.

But... our deposits will still take the usual 5 to 7 days to be available. Thus, many warn that many of us may find ourselves bouncing checks, and paying high fees for them because of this gap.

I think that this is something that everyone can understand, if Kerry will say that his administration is going to take care of this, that clearing checks quickly will apply not only the ones that we right for the gas company, but also the ones that our employer gives us.

Abortion - we have had several threads about it here and it would be nice if, instead of saying - as he did during the debate - that he is Catholic but is not going to impose his belief on others, that he will say that he would like to see the resources of the government dedicated to prevent unwanted pregnancies by sex education, by supporting family planning groups, by paying for the pills to women on welfare and by promoting the "morning after pills." Just face it head off, don't hide. I think that most people do not think of a 12-hour fertilized egg as a "baby."

Last, I've heard that Arnold is campaigning for Bush. Would be nice to superimpose him in that campaign with his own campaign when he said - I hope such videos are available - that he supports a woman's right to choose and supports gay rights.

1. Diebold makes a lot of equipment for banking
Any bets that they sold a bunch of new imaging equipment because of the requirment that banks go to Check 21? Sure sounds like a payoff to me.

2. Just another point re: abortion: rate is UP in last four years, was Down
during the 90's. This is mainly because of the economy: the number one reason for getting an abortion is not having enough money! So of course, as the economy gets tighter, especially for the bottom end folks, as gas prices rise and housing prices go up, and wages stay flat... of course more babies will be aborted. Also throw in that men without jobs are much less likely to stick around to be fathers, plus that healthcare is harder to access for low income people.... it all adds up to increased abortions.

This is not just about making this illegal, because desparate women will ALWAYS find a way, safe or not, to have this done. It's about reducing the conditions that cause abortions, and the number one priority should be to improve the economy.
