Pathetic Novak column -- don't they have anything stronger?

Novak's column this morning is all about how Richard Lugar doesn't really support John Kerry. Well, duh, he'd be tossed from his perch as committee chair if he did it openly! But look at just how wan Lugar's -- and by inference Novak's -- defense of Bush is. If this is Novak at his best, at the end of a campaign, then I almost feel sorry for him.

excerpt:

---

Lugar was more blunt with me (Novak) last week. ''The use of my remarks is an attempt to shore up a weak position on his part,'' he told me, adding that Kerry ''has tried to extend the failing of reconstruction to a more general criticism of the war.''

---

Ooooh!!! Bad, bad John Kerry, says Lugar!! My goodness, he's practicing politics as an election approaches!!!

How much you wanna bet Lugar holds his now when he pulls the R ballot next week?

1. As far as I'm concerned, Novak's credibility evaporated this year
He started out being anti war and then committed his Plame crime and then tried to swing back to support Bush as a result- He's toast. I don't read him anymore- I did at one time- He was a straight talker til Rove set him up

4. I still listen to what Novak is saying - he is like weather vane.
One can usually tell a lot about what is going on by what Novak is saying on any given week.

He has been in Washington a long, long time and is well connected if anything. Novak usually has the pulse of the GOP and the beltway establishment in general.

3. Well, the failing of reconstruction is at least general criticism of Bush
and that's what voting is all about! Lugar's statement still leaves WAY open the possibility Lugar backs Kerry.
