Poll question: Which Campaign Sounds The Most Desperate?
Both campaigns have lowered their heads as they head down the final stretch of an extremely tight race. Both have been known for exagerrating the truth in varying proportions.

The question becomes: when do the atttacks cease being attacks and become signals of distress? Does Kerry's white-kuckled attacks on Bush's record smell desperate to you? Or do Bush's ferocious attacks on Kerry's character seem to cross that line?

Are one or both of these campaigns drifting from reality?

As you can probably guess, I have my own thoughts on the matter, but I'd like to know what effect you think the recent escalation has had on the American public and/or each Party's respective base.

1. Of course it's Smirk/Sneer
They're running on empty right now. The Mary Cheney non-story and the charge "tax-and-spend liberal from Massachusetts" are proof of that. Karl Rove no longer has teeth.

2. GOPs in NM races
are getting even more shrill with each passing day. They've been reduced to sneering "LIBERAL!" in their TV spots. They have no record. They have no plans. They have nothing to point to with pride except fattening the rich, and you can't campaign on that. So they're shrill, desperate, negative, and nasty.

I sincerely hope they're also DEFEATED, along with their little tin Jesus in the White House.

3. Wow---I guess it didn't hit me until I saw your subject line posted
Kerry is simply hitting over and over again on the truth of this botched up war, economy, etc. He's telling the truth of what Bush said about SS and the like. Bush is in 'insane' mode. He's not talking about anything remotely based on proven facts or figures. He just screams that terrorists will attack if Kerry is elected. He already has told us in the past that they ARE going to attack anyway. The War on Terror is like War on Drugs or Poverty. It will go on forever and a day so the people will not always have George around to so-called 'protect' them. They are the ones out trying to pull election fraud. Yes, I think we can see the face of panic and it isn't a blue face. It's the red face of a guy who has drunk too much and I believe is refueling on his juice between stops.

9. Actually, that is what made me vote for Kerry here
Kerry, despite being calm and collected, seems to me to be more desperate. Why?

Well, Kerry is actually getting to the point where he is almost pleading with people to just wake the fuck up and recognize the facts. He hasn't been able to really focus in on Bush the way he needs to while being able to push his own plans and stances. He is caught up in defending himself, his record, and most importantly straightening out the lies and halftruths being spread about him all over TV and the radio. As a Kerry supporter, I am getting desperate for the same reason that I imagine Kerry may be.
I realize that we may only have a matter of days to grasp at what could be our last chance at democracy. I know that a second Bush term would be devestating to this country, and would bring about some very unwelcome changes in our democratic process. I think Kerry knows how screwed America will be if Bush wins.

And, regarding what you said about Bush being in "insane" mode, not even coming close to facts, logic or reason, and spitting out lies and contradicting statements every time he opens his mouth:

That doesn't show that Bush is desperate. In fact, that is all Bush ever does. It just shows that Bush is a liar who lives somewhere very far removed from reality.

4. The Bushies are in full panic mode
Has anyone seen excerpts from Bush's speeches lately? All he does is twist Kerry's words to get "boo lines" for the party faithful.

Bush: Senator Kerry says he wants to raise taxes.

Audience: Booooo!

Bush: Senator Kerry says terrorism is a nuisance.

Audience: Boooooo!

Bush: Senator Kerry wants permission to defend America.

Audience: Boooooo!

It's so schoolyard that I can't believe anyone buys it.

6. 1992
Remember how shrill Bush Senior got toward the end of the 1992 campaign when it became clear that he was going to lose? I'm hearing a lot of that from junior right now.

7. Watched "The War Room" Last Night
And that's probably what inspired this thread. They seem pretty unhinged, even undisciplined.

8. Bush camp is going bonkers
They don't know what to do as they see the election slipping away. It's getting embarrassing.
