1. Fighting tooth and nail to hang onto a Democratic senate seat
Edited on Mon Oct-11-04 11:44 PM by Rowdyboy
in one of the most right-wing Republican strongholds of the country. I agree that he should not be our leader in the senate-we need someone with a safe seat who is able to get upin the face of the Republicans. However, understand, the man is breaking his back to help returns Dems to a majority in the senate.

I don't want him as leader, but he sure is a great Democratic senator for South Dakota.

8. Acutally, his being leader probably helped Tim Johnson win
And if he were simply "just another Democrat" in the Senate, I suspect it would be even harder for Daschle to win. Sure, being Democratic leader makes him an easy target, but voters in South Dakota understand that he has a lot more influence than the average Democrat.

2. Electoral vote.com!
Go to

www.electoral-vote.com

they have updates on the senate race too, near the bottom of the page.

So far in polls he's losing behind Thune.

3. he was forced to miss two debates this weekend because of
Frist calling a special session - cheap ploy to keep Dems in DC instead of back home campaigning.

6. Obama sent him 53,000 for his campaign expenses. I thought that was
a terrific move.

13. I've heard Obama is so far ahead of that lunatic...
...he's running against, that he's been able to help out other Democrats in tight races around the country. Good news all the way around.

12. At least Gephardt unlike Lieberman votes for the people
when it comes to economic issues. He's my pick for labor secretary.

14. Gephardt is effectively retired
It's my hope that John Kerry appoints him as Secretary of Labor. Gephardt is no Lieberman. He was misled and lied to by Bush* on IWR just as Ted Kennedy was on No Child Left Behind. This administration lies. Both Gephardt and Kennedy know that now, and that's the reason that they have both gone after them with such vehemence. We've all seen Kennedy's ire. And Gephardt was the one who coined the phrase "miserable failure" about Bush*. I've listened to Dick Gephardt. He put everything on the line to try one last time for the presidency. He deserved the VP nomination, but I do think that Kerry made an inspired choice in Edwards. But Dick Gephardt still has a lot of good work to do and I hope that he can put his experience and work ethic and support by labor groups throughout the country to work for the next administration, led by John Kerry.:kick:
