Best Bush Can Do Is Try & Prevent A Humiliating Defeat
Edited on Mon Oct-11-04 08:48 PM by cryingshame
that not only gives Kerry a clear mandate but also takes down too many Senators & Representatives.

Bush's outlandish performance at the last debate indicates that internal polls show his base is eroding.

His aggressive behavior is anathema to moderates.

The Sinclair crap won't do any more damage than the Swift crap has done.

By now, you either believe the smear or you don't.

People tuned into the debates and liked what they saw in Kerry.

Fewer and fewer are tuning in and liking what they see in Bush.

Heck, I haven't seen ONE Bush/Cheney bumpersticker or yard sign.

The ONLY bumpersticker I've seen was a "W". People are so sick of Bush they don't even use his NAME.

IMO, Rove may be trying to eek out a win but as long as we keep working hard... they are pumping water out of a sinking boat.

1. Agreed.
Bush is toast and he will have a negative coat tail effect, possibly pushing both houses of Congress into our camp.

2. The Slimeboat vets pushed Kerry down 8 to 10 points for over
a month. Considering the timing it will have a negative effect and Kerry will lose 5 to 7 points by election day, so he better have one hell of a lead going into that week.

4. I Disagree. Smear Has Been Out There. You Either Believe It Or Not
people tune into the debates and more and more LIKE Kerry.

Conversely, they DISLIKE Bush more and more.

8. I Agree with Your Analysis and...
if this is the right call, Kerry can turn this issue against Shrub in the last debate as an example of the twisted negative campaign that the repugs have been running. Hopefully, this will cause even more people to turn against Shrub.

Kerry ought to bring up Duhbya's comment to Matt Lauer of a few weeks ago that "I don't think we can win the war on terrorism" (or something to that effect). Kerry ought to hang this issue around Shrub's neck like an albatross.

Let's keep putting on the pressure, folks. Only 3 weeks to go.

5. it wasn't just the ads and the controversy
Kerry was husbanding his money during August and had to weather whatever was thrown at him so he could close strongly with equal funds. That is now. Some crappy RW propaganda hit piece on a limited number of stations is not going to move the numbers downward by 7-8 points... prima facie absurd. Sorry.

3. They've given up on the undecideds.
That's what I said at the last debate. They've stopped even trying for the 'moderate' vote, and are focused entirely on energizing the RW/fundie base.

7. Wrong message, wrong time.
This is still a 47/47 split, and the election is still to be won by either side. Bush has a lock on at least 200 EVs in the south and west, so we have no margin for going backwards.

It's looking better, and Kerry is certainly a strong candidate. But fight like hell and stop pretending it's going to be an FDR landslide. It aint.

9. Agreed
Although I don't think that any more Vietnam smear will do anything. It was out there it was discussed and now I think any resurgence of it wouldn't effect either candidate. What we need to concentrate on in the next 3 weeks is getting to people on a very individual level.

10. If CNNservative Is To Believed
Schneider painted a real ugly picture...the manchild's lost 10 points (remember that was the Gallup out-"liar" after the debate) while Kerry has gone up 6 since the debates and the trend is steady and growing.

We'll know just how good/bad things are in the spin following tomorrow's debate. Not sure how to predict at this point, but I just sense the whole tenor of the campaign is about to turn...and for the good.

In 2000, I was optimistic-negative about Gore...felt he had enough votes to win but wasn't so sure he could seal the deal. This year I feel optimistic positive...more so than anytime in the past 3 years. At least I'll enjoy it tonight while I watch the concert.

Cheers!
