Tongue-tied Bush hands Kerry a narrow win in second ...
Tongue-tied Bush hands Kerry a narrow win in second televised
election debate
An angry Dubya evokes Nixon's disastrous screen performances as
his confident opponent closes the gap, reports Ros Davidson
It was not Missouri breaks. Friday night's debate, between the
Boston Brahmin and the Texas wrangler, did little to ease the
excruciating tension of the US presidential race. The bout, the
second of three, was as aggressive and testy in tone as any US
presidential clash in decades. But there was no knock-out.
President George W Bush and Senator John Kerry had tangled for
90-plus minutes, slamming each other on economic issues, health
care and Iraq. At times, Bush seemed to struggle to rein in his
anger, although he relaxed later, when the questioning shifted from
Iraq and terrorism to domestic issues.

He blinked, or smirked, although less often than in his disastrous
meeting eight days earlier in Florida. That was even though Friday's
setting, in St Louis, Missouri, should have benefited him most.
With a "town hall" format, voters asked the two candidates
questions directly. Bush's feisty ways, and ease at interacting with
people, might have trumped Kerry's tendency to patrician windiness.
America's reaction was initially mixed. Bush's poor performance in
the first debate, when he was also repetitive, is widely believed to
have cost him his lead in the polls. The race is now too close to call.

1. How it can be a "narrow win" if the jerk is "tongue-tied" is beyond
me!!!

2. Do you get points deducted for poor
grammar? Or how about butchering the English language for a solid 90 minutes? How about a phony Texas twang that got heavier by the minute. Instead of saying "wasn't", he said "wudn't", or how about "Internets". Mixing up words, colliding 2 sentences which were springing up at the same time in his feeble mind.

What about deducting points for being a low-brow? Bush just sounded like the Village Idiot during the whole spectacle. I cringed the whole time I had to listen to him. He is such an embarrassment. Sheesh.

I'd say they gave Bush too much credit.

4. Bush is inconsistent in the debates.
In 2000, Al Gore was showing all his facets as a multi-faceted personality. Bush was consistent.

In these debates, John Kerry is consistent. Dubya showed up at the first one somewhat unprepared beyond the first sound bites. He seemed bored and restless.
In Friday's debate Bush was wired. He was jumping up and lunging at the question almost like he was going off half cocked. John Kerry was the same person in the second debate he was in the first.

If our John can be the same person again at the third debate, and Dubya comes up with just another different but angry personality, people will not trust Bush. They won't know which Bush they will get in a crisis.

Kerry is exhibiting the consistency and maturity and patience to be president. Dubya is not and has not any of those desirable traits.

7. bush's "clock is up"!
I wish a lot more Americans could read this article..even though I don't think it's "a narrow victory"..more like another slam dunk!

"But when Bush denigrated his opponent as a liberal Kerry was ready. “The president is just trying to scare everybody here by throwing labels around. I mean ‘compassionate conservative?’ What does that mean? Cutting 500,000 kids from after school programmes? Cutting 365,000 kids from health care? Running up the biggest deficits in history?“

..That's perfect!

Who could quote Aeschylus from memory in their stump speeches.

Americans have fallen a great deal if they have respect for a president who cant even get "fool me once" correct.
