Israeli Army Kills 5 Palestinian Gunmen in W. Bank
By Wael al-Ahmad

JENIN, West Bank (Reuters) - The Israeli army staged its deadliest West Bank raid in months Wednesday, killing five Palestinian gunmen in violence that overshadowed a new round of international diplomacy.

The latest bloodshed which drew vows of revenge by militants, came amid conflicting signals on whether Israeli and Palestinian leaders were preparing to meet next week in their first summit in eight months.

Troops operating undercover shot dead five members of the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, an armed faction in Palestinian President Yasser Arafat's Fatah movement, in an ambush in the town of Jenin, witnesses said. Israeli officials said the gunmen had been on the way to attack a nearby Jewish settlement.

4. There goes another peace summit.
Herschel, did you favor Bush's pre-emptive war against Saddam?

If so, since Saddam had no WMD, what was Bush preempting?

7. Of all the other peoples of the world,
only one people (not gov't) of one country favored the PNAC hatched US invasion of Iraq.

That country was Israel.

Perle and Wolfowitz and Kristol and got their wish.

And Saddam wasn't even a threat to Israel.

How do you threaten a country with a couple hundred nukes?

With phantom WMDs?

Israel is not a signatory to the Nuclear non Proliferation Treaty. They are as rogue a nation as North Korea.

If you believe Bush's lies and other crap, I have no hope for you. Vote Republican.

The purpose of the US gov't is not act as a proxy for Israel's rightwingnuts.

If Israel wanted Saddam gone, they should have done it themselves, instead of using the billions they receive from the US annually to build their frickin' Berlin Wall.

No American should die for a foreign government's whims and policies.

3. Haaretz tells it differently:
Earlier Wednesday, five wanted Fatah
militants were killed by undercover Israel
Defense Forces soldiers in the West Bank city
of Jenin on Wednesday, witnesses and security
sources said.

Security sources said soldiers conducting a
sweep for militants shot Palestinians who
aimed guns at Israeli forces.

The five men, traveling in two cars in an
eastern neighborhood in the city, were killed in
a brief gunfight that broke out shortly after the
troops arrived, witnesses said. The car was
riddled with bullets, and troops immediately
pulled out after the battle, they said.
Kalashnikov rifles were found near the bodies
of the five men.

The IDF said it had entered the town to arrest a
number of Palestinian militants and shot four
armed figures who had taken aim at the
soldiers. The army did not immediately know
the conditions of the five and could not
confirm whether they had been the targets of
the operation.

10. "Israel Kills 5 Palestinian Activists In Jenin"
"Israeli undercover forces killed five Palestinians in this West Bank city Wednesday, March 10, a few hours after a mother of three was fatally shot and a one-month baby died when Israeli soldiers denied him access to a Gaza hospital.

Israeli undercover soldiers assassinated the five activists while on a car carrying Palestinian plates on the entrance of Jenin, eyewitnesses told IslamOnline.net."

11. I'm sure the operation that killed the mother of 3 was "fascinating" too !
I personally don't find the whole judge/jury/executioner thing either wonderful or fascinating.
