Posters appeared Thursday on the streets of Jerusalem comparing the
evacuation of outposts by the Israeli army to the persecution of Jews by
the Poles during the Holocaust. The posters depict, under the headline
"who gave the order" tractors razing the synagogue at the Tapuah
settlement by the side of a WWII picture of Polish soldiers beating Jews.
The slogan underneath asks the public: "what did you do today to bring
down Sharon's government"
The posters were put up anonymously in Jerusalem?s main
thoroughfares. Jerusalem police has asked the State Prosecutor to
determine whether they amount to incitement against the government of
Ariel Sharon. If incitement is believed to be involved, an investigation
into the affair will be launched.
Hate graffiti against the Prime Minister appeared last week on the streets
of Jerusalem with the words: "Sharon the traitor" together with
"
Kahane was right". Minister of Internal Security, Tzahi
Hanegbi, and Chief of Police, Shlomo Aharonishky, denounced the act
and promised that those responsible would be arrested and brought to
trial.
