Jewish Extremists Vandalize Muslim and Christian Cemetery in Jaffa
A Jewish extremist group vandalized a Muslim and Christian cemetery in Jaffa on Friday, destroying graves and spray painting “Death to Arabs.” The attack comes during the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur.

Sheikh Ibarhim Sarsour, head of the Arab Unity party and the Jaffa Islamic Movement, said he condemned the offenses against the Islamic sacred sites.

“Obviously it has become a lifestyle among Jewish extremists,” said Sarsour. “They take advantage of the inability or the complicity of the police, which until now hasn’t been able to solve any of the ten crimes committed towards Arabs and Muslims.” The nine other incidents were not clarified.

Sarsour promised a letter-writing campaign directed at the Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and to Israeli president Shimon Peres, assuring them that Arabs and Muslims “would not leave their homes despite the shock of the crimes,” and cited the recent burning of the al-Nour mosque in Tuba al-Zanghariya.

6. PA official: IDF protects settlers who attack Palestinians
<snip>

Palestinian Authority officials claims that settler violence planned in coordination with IDF; Charges are "ridiculous," says military source.

<snip>

"The IDF dismissed accusations by the Palestinian Authority that it was protecting settlers who attack Palestinians and/or their property in the West Bank as ridiculous on Thursday."

<snip>

"But the PA minister for fence and settlements, Maher Ghnaim, told reporters in Ramallah that a recent upsurge in anti-Palestinian settler violence in the West Bank “coincided with increased assaults by the occupation against our people.”

He said this indicated the attacks were being “coordinated and programed” between the settlers and the IDF.

Ghnaim claimed IDF soldiers were not only protecting the violent settler groups, but were also providing escape routes for them after attacks on Palestinians.

Instead of dealing with the assailants, the soldiers often target defenseless Palestinians, as was the case in the village of Kusra last month, where one Palestinian was killed during a confrontation, he added.

The PA minister said that in the last month alone, settlers attacked more than 20 Palestinian communities in the West Bank while the Israeli government was busy “Judaizing” Jerusalem and while “aggressions” were continuing against the Aksa Mosque.

He also pointed out that four mosques had been torched or vandalized in the West Bank in recent weeks."

8. Handling of complaints of settler violence by the IDF
The IDF is the sovereign in the Occupied Territories, and bears overall responsibility for maintaining law and order there. It has the duty and authority to prevent violent and illegal acts of Israeli civilians against Palestinians and to arrest offenders.

The IDF has grossly failed to enforce the law against settlers and to protect the life, person, and property of the Palestinian residents from repeated attacks by the Israeli residents. The IDF's attitude towards cases of such violence ranges from deliberate non-intervention to more active cooperation.

IDF soldiers present during acts of settler violence against Palestinians do not attempt to stop or prevent these acts, or even to record identifying details of those involved and pass them on to the Israel Police. Soldiers' attempts to prevent crimes or arrest the perpetrators are rare and superficial. In some cases, the soldiers not only do not stop the violence, they actively take part in it.

In many cases, the IDF restricts the movement of Palestinians, including imposition of curfews, during which settlers attack the Palestinians. The IDF contends that these acts are taken to protect them, but they actually create an absurd situation in which restrictions are placed on the persons attacked ratter than on the attacker. Furthermore, the settlers take advantage of the fact that the Palestinians are under curfew and imprisoned in their homes to attack them and their property, which they are unable to defend. Thus, the IDF not only fails in its duty to protect the Palestinians, it also aids the settlers in attacking them.
