Danny Danon (Likud MK): Send African migrants to Australia
Edited on Sat Jul-02-11 12:32 AM by shaayecanaan
"Likud MK and Australian MP discuss "humane solution" for thousands of 'Muslim infiltrators' in Israel: Send them to live down under."

MK Danny Danon (Likud) asked Australian MP Michael Danby on Wednesday to propose, in parliament in Canberra, sending African migrants from Israel to Australia.

“The refugees’ place is not among us, and the initiative to transfer them to Australia is the right and just solution.

“On the one hand, it (Australia) treats the refugees and migrants in a humane way. On the other hand, it does not threaten Israel’s future and our goal to maintain a clear and solid Jewish majority,” he explained.

Danon said Danby enthusiastically agreed to present the idea to the Australian Parliament.

3. I wonder if he's lying about Danby's enthusiasm...
I suspect after reading that line about how Australia treats refugees in a humane way that he's talking out of his arse, as well as being pretty dense....

6. I doubt it...
I think that Danby probably smiled and nodded when the proposition was put to him - which is especially hypocritical when you consider that Danby has been quite critical of Australia`s treatment of refugees.

In 2007, he criticised Kevin Rudd for referring to boat people as "illegal immigrants". I wonder if he took his Israeli contemporaries to task for referring to them as "infiltrators". Somehow I don`t think so.

Other than Israel and refugees, I barely recall him saying a word on anything. And from the people I know in the ALP (which is more than a couple, I am Lebanese after all :-) he is also increasingly on the nose within the party as well.

11. Yep, he's definately on the nose...
Not having noticed him before this, I went and took a look, and found this from only a week or so ago where he's threatening to pass on his preferences to the Liberals.

Labor MP willing to preference Liberals to oust Bandt

I've also discovered that he responds to any and all protests or criticism of Israel as being extremist hate-mongering. He's really got hypocrisy down to a fine art, and he'll be one MP I'll be glad to see the back of if he's rejected by his electorate...

14. He definitely hates the Greens...

His animus against the Greens stems purely from the Israel issue. The problem is that he's in an electorate with a substantial degree of Green support, so he makes efforts to appear as palatable to Green sympathies as possible - witness for example how recently enthusiastic he has become about climate change.

7. Danny Danon is vile...
and unless Australia has changed a LOT in its attitude to immigrants since John Howard's time, I doubt that there actually *was* real enthusiasm there.

12. ...and then the Australian government would put them on the same island
where they marooned the Afghan refugees.

(As far as I know, Violet, the Labor government hasn't significantly changed the Howard regime's immigration policies. Am I correct in that assumption?)

15. Australian MP: Danon refugee plan ‘unrealistic’
Despite Australia’s “generous humanitarian program,” Danby explained, “there would have to be some pretty good reason for even a few of to originate from Israel, as most of those admitted... are selected by our immigration officials from people in particularly desperate circumstances, particularly in our region.

“All of these complexities make Mr. Danon’s proposals probably quite unrealistic,” he said.

Danby also suggested that “Israel should take great pride in the fact that people are fleeing towards Israel. They are not running towards North Korea, Sudan or Tibet.

“This refugee flow underlines the great lie of those obsessed shmucks in the flotilla” to Gaza, he said.

Danby also took issue with Danon’s use of the term “Muslim infiltrators” to describe Africans entering Israel.

16. Thanks for the article...
Danby also took issue with Danon’s use of the term “Muslim infiltrators” to describe Africans entering Israel.

Danby did not meet with Danon on his recent visit in Israel, and did not discuss the refugee issue with him. Minutes after receiving a query from the Post, he wrote that he was “surprised to receive a letter from Danny on World Likud letterhead on my email.”

Danon said in response that he and Danby both participated in a discussion on refugees at a leadership forum at Bar- Ilan University in December, where he presented the idea. Danby confirmed that he spoke about immigration in the forum.

Well, credit where credit is due, it seems that Danby is willing to criticise Israelis, however politely. Presuming of course that Danby's account is the correct one and Danon is the one that is bullshitting.

17. And it was a very polite criticism..
It didn't contain even a smidgen of the superheated rage he directs at people who are critical of Israel's policies towards the Palestinians...
