2. 'Israel keeping Gaza parched, Amnesty International says'
This report via CNN was dated October 27, 2009.

"Jerusalem (CNN) -- Israel is denying Palestinians access to adequate water supplies by controlling shared water resources, the human rights group Amnesty International said in a report released Tuesday.

In the 100-page report, titled "Troubled Waters: Palestinians Denied Fair Access to Water," Amnesty says Israel restricts Palestinian access to water through various means while making it readily available to its own citizens.

The group accuses Israel of ignoring humanitarian and human rights laws, in violation of its obligations as the occupying power."

The Gaza situation was a hundred times worse, but it has been a general problem, and is apparently part of the ethnic cleansing strategy on Israel's part to get more and more Palestinians to leave.

So cynicism is well deserved whenever Israel increase water to Palestinians. In the West Bank, Palestinians can watch Israelis in settlements swimming in their pools while they lack sufficient water for personal use, and definately for agricultural purposes. In the Jordan Valley, lack of access to water has turned farmers into serfs, who now have to work in Israeli settlements for meagre wages in order to survive. Eventually, many will pack up and head for Jordan. But isn't that the idea?
