Israel and the Zionist Lobby
Am I the only person sick of the one-sided, hypocritical foreign policy the government has with regard to Israel?

It's obvious that the Zionist lobby controls our foreign policy. Why is the US the only country to never condemn Israeli aggression at the UN? Why did America veto the resolution that would prevent Israel from killing Arafat?

For once a politician (Howard Dean) suggests a balanced foreign policy, but he only gets blasted by Likudist monster Joe Lieberman who thinks that settlement building and air strikes on residential areas will lead to peace.

2. I disagree...
American foreign policy isn't dictated by the Zionist lobby, it's dictated by PNAC. Connections do exist, but not to the extent that some make it out to be.

PNAC is untimately served by a right-wing Likud government in Israel that will listen to their wishes.

5. Don't kid yourself.
I saw an AIPAC meeting on C-SPAN back in april, and I saw Bill Frist, Tom Daschle, and Colin Powell all take turns kissing AIPAC's ass.

Even in PNAC, the pro-Israeli policy is due to the fact that the core of PNAC is fanatically Jewish-Zionist (Wolfowitz, Perle) and plenty of Christian nutballs who support Israel because of some apocalyptic theory are involved in this crap.

9. Thanks for the...
oh, never mind.

Where are your sources for this? What evidence do you have in support of this connection? And no, Pat Buchanan's or David Duke's anti-semitic pieces of junk don't count.

6. can't do that..
They don't operate that way because then they would have to follow PAC rules and they would also have to register as agents of a foreign power.

Just email them and tell them you want to write some checks and they will tell you where to mail them.

Supporting the occupation and attacking the Palestinians while ignoring Israeli atrocities seems not very great work to me.

23. I forget to mention...
devestating and despicable suicide bombings against innocent people? Like another poster, you seem to have an intuitive ability to know things about me that I don't seem to know myself.

And if that's ALL AIPAC stands for, then I agree with them. Unfortunately, they end up supporting the Likud line of thought rather fanatically, and that's where I begin to disagree with them.

Jews are no more or less prone to chauvinism than anyone else. I don't know what the gentiles who back that whole thing up are about and wonder greatly why they care if they identify at all with any sort of leftist ideology but to be certain there are left-liberals who are supportive of Israel.

14. Rage Is A Poor Councilor, Sir
Edited on Sun Sep-28-03 03:47 PM by The Magistrate
The question of Israel v. Palestine does not divide along neat left and right lines. Much opposition to Israel emerges from extraordinarily reactionary tendencies.

Your expressed shock at finding members of this forum in support of Israel strikes a humorous that may be your only saving grace, Sir.

As a matter of curiousity, just how extensive do you believe the influence of Jews over the government and society of the United States to be?

22. I don't know but..
perhaps the next time you might want to try and be serious about the question instead of getting the vapors about "Jewish money". If you want I can demonstrate quite clearly that AIPAC can be trumped by a number of different lobbies and that they are a swing vote at best and limited to strongarming congress and have little influence over the executive.
