Poll: 81% of U.S. Jews believe Arabs want to destroy Israel
WASHINGTON - Eighty-one percent of American Jews believe that the real goal of the Arabs is the destruction of Israel and not the return of occupied land, according to the annual survey of the American Jewish Committee (AJC) on various issues.

While 54 percent said they supported the establishment of a Palestinian state, only 38 percent said Israel and the Arabs could solve the conflict peacefully. Another 56 percent said they believed the conflict could not be resolved.

According to the survey, a slim majority of American Jews do not believe that the United States should act militarily to stop Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. Fifty-four percent opposed such action and 38 percent supported it. However, 57 percent said Israel would be justified in taking military action against Iran, while 35 percent were opposed
to Israel's taking such action.

The polls's 958 respondents were asked about the recent war in Lebanon, both its justification and its management. Fifty-five percent of those polled said Israel acted correctly in going to war, and 35 percent said it did not. Only 24 percent believe Israel won the war against Hezbollah, while 15 percent believe Hezbollah won. Nearly half, 49 percent, said neither side could be considered the winner.

13. Thank you for that. Do you think I have the wrong PointOfView?
Enlighten me. Why should we support Israel? We have spent brazillions, the war with Lebanon, who is winning which war and why?

15. Your POV is yours.
Is it wrong? Possibility. But, your opinion, is just that, an opinion. Unless it is being passed of as "fact" then it really is subjective as to its "rightness" or "wrongness."

There are multitudes of reasons to support Israel, including that she is an ally, and has been for awhile. It doesn't mean support should always be blind, but that is bound to happen from time to time. As for spending "brazillions," I can't comment on that because I don't know what that word means. The rest of your comment makes little sense, so I can't really comment on it either.

...nor do I understand the relevance of using it here. So, whatever.

3. That is largely due to decades of propaganda in which AIPAC and AJC
demonized All Palestinians and All Arabs as antisemitic maniacs.

Seems some Palestinians are quite adept at showing themselves as anti-Semitic "maniacs."

What is worthy? Should I be throwing things and be angry? I don't think so.

4. Our funds make Israel a state of the U.S.
We're locked into them. Why my taxes should go to paying their offensive actions against their neighbors is beyond me. They can stand on their own or fall. I don't care.

And what, precisely, is your goal is pointing this out?

Why does it matter to you what Jews believe?

What do Arabs believe?

26. Hey, peace to you. I don't want to fight, ever. There's enough of that
going on. So stop rolling your eyes, and rest in the fact that I won't be
disturbing you anymore.
I have a grave problem in the relationship between the US and Israel, and
the money being spent. And Lebanon. But we can discuss/dwell on that another time.

27. Whatever.
This would have been interesting if more of the posts made some type of sense.

I have a grave problem with the lack of nuance of some when it comes to discussing Israel. Not everything is 'black and white.' The same can be said of the entire situation in the ME as well as other issues.

I've been to Tel Aviv a few times, spent a few weeks in Israel, went to Jerusalem, the best historic place I've been in my life. BUT Goddamnit! Tell me why. Tell me why Israel and the US blew up Beirut becuase I don't have a damn clue. TELL ME WHY!

Either explain that or please go away and leave me/us alone.
I will remember, but I also remember you; you were cool. What
happened that you are so pro-Israeli all of a sudden? Or are you?

31. ???
"Interesting you don't get a damn thing unless it's to your benefit." That makes no sense. If I don't understand what a poster is saying, I ask for clarification.

"Either explain that or please go away and leave me/us alone." Do not presume to tell me where I can and cannot post or discuss issues. If you don't want to discuss something with me, then I suggest you either "ignore" me or not reply to my posts.

"What happened that you are so pro-Israeli all of a sudden?" You obviously don't remember well. I have been 'pro-Israeli' since I came to DU over two years ago.

"Or are you?" ???? I are you asking if I am "suddenly" pro-Israeli? No, as I said above, I have been since I came to DU.

25. US Jews advocate Palestinian state
Edited on Mon Oct-23-06 01:39 AM by oberliner
Same survey, different headline.

U.S. Jews advocate Palestinian state

NEW YORK, Oct. 22 (UPI) -- An annual survey conducted by the American Jewish Committee has found 54 percent of Jews in the United States support the creation of a Palestinian state.

The telephone survey of 958 U.S. Jews found 74 percent of those surveyed saw Israel as being an integral part of their religion, The Jerusalem Post said.

Also in the survey, 81 percent of those polled said that rather than regaining control of occupied territory, they thought the Arabs wanted to destroy Israel.
