I think I figured out the "Assault Rifle Ban" expiration
Buxh gets endorsement from the NRA.

THEN...no matter who gets elected this year, that president will push for a NEW ban on semi-auto high-powered rifles that will close the loopholes that were accidentally written into that less than perfect ban ten years ago.

Win-win for the Bushies....Lose-lose for the gun lobbies.

I think this was planned by the repub senate from the beginning.
All they care about is the NRA endorsement, and the millions of votes that accompany it.

Even if Buxh gets elected, he will soon find reason to generate the new bill, without having to face the wrath of the NRA ever again.

Voters that support Buxh for his stance on second ammendment rights have been used as the simple fools they are.

1. Why would he bother?
If he can forget about facing the NRA again, wouldn't he also not have to face the gun control lobby again?

2. Because I don't think there's a "pro gun" bone in Buxh's body.
The fools at the NRA should realize that if ANYONE is going to take away their rights....He's in the WH now.

I'll never believe that an armed public fits in with GWs long term plan for America.

7. when i lived in Texas he sign the bill allowing concealed weapons
in churches. Maybe he's not a big gun owner himself but he is owned by the NRA.

9. I forgot about the Texas - church law....
...Yes he is influenced by NRA votes.

If elected he will never face voters again...NRA endorsement will mean nothing to him.

Indeed, a LOT of what influences him now will be meaningless...He will rule on his own dangerous agenda. Not a pleasant outlook.

3. no, he wants his crazy zealots armed to the teeth--then he can get them
enraged about liberals and government so they go spray crowds of people with bullets.

He knows nothing will happen to him, and there might be less liberals after awhile.

Don't tell me there aren't a few people at freeper.moron who aren't already thinking about it.

4. Good point....I've been half expecting some wack-o to gun down....
...a group of "liberals", then expect a presidential medal for taking out "America's traitors".
Because Ann Coulter and Sean Hannity "told him to".

The lawsuits will change hate radio formats for a long time to come.

5. It's the economy
Those ebay sales and lemonade stands just haven't done enough to stimulate the economy but a run on guns may help.
Gunmakers are all ready, offering free magazines with gun purchase.

6. Where are the free magazines?
demokatgurrl: Gunmakers are all ready, offering free magazines with gun purchase.

Where can we get the free magazines? Sorry to ask but I registered just to find out. Especially Glock magazines. The high-capacity ones. I've been looking everywhere to find the pre-ban (now post-ban) magazines. And I've been thinking about getting a nice AK-47 like the one Diane Feinstein shoots. Not sure if she has the genuine Russian one or the cheaper Warsaw Pact knockoffs but I assume she has the money for the good stuff.

Also, I can think of plenty of Pink Pistols and heavily armed nerds who love their guns and they're every bit as liberal and libertarian as anyone on DU. So maybe the whole political gun thing is over with already. I don't think Democrats are very likely to bring it up again except as a campaign fundraising tactic. So let them milk you for money 'for the cause' if you like. But don't expect much legislation.

8. Even i know that millions of high capacity magazines are readily available

Because the "Assault Rifle Ban" only stops production of new ones, and does nothing to prohibit sales of existing "pre-ban" high cap mags at shops and gun shows across the country.

Only the price has gone up, but with the high cost of 7.62 et al rounds, that point is probably moot.

Mark my words...The rewritten 2005 ban will cover such loopholes, no matter who gets elected.

10. Huh?
JohnnyRingo: "Mark my words...The rewritten 2005 ban will cover such loopholes, no matter who gets elected."

Nope. No one will touch the guns for years except to pass CCW laws. The gunners are well-known for their long and vicious memories and fanatical voting habits.

I expect anti-gun legislation about as much as a cut in Social Security. Or a hike in taxes on corporations. Or closing the borders. I.e. NEVER! Well, not in the next ten years...

11. One thing is true.....If we lose 2nd amendent rights it will be with....

...the co-operation of BOTH parties. Thats the way our constitution is written. (thank goodness)

Gun control is no longer a repub/dem issue. It boils down to losing yet one more right.

And I anticipate it. I just think GW is insincerely pandering to the lobby, and by default, its members.
