"Armed Citizen" Blog Re-Launches; Self-Defense Site Rebounds From Lawsuit(Righthaven)
Edited on Wed Jan-05-11 03:48 PM by RamboLiberal
The Armed Citizen is back online!

TheArmedCitizen.com, the premiere website for chronicling civilian defensive gun use re-launched on New Year’s Day following five months of down time.

The site, founded by historian and author Clayton Cramer, fell prey to a frivolous lawsuit from a company known as Righthaven, a legal firm which partners with online newspapers to sue blogs that rebroadcast stories or images from the publications.

“It’s basically legal extortion,” said co-blogger David Burnett. “They print their stories online with all kinds of buttons inviting you to share the story on the web. If you repost the story with a link, they sue and you have to pay them money to make it go away.”

Too bad they didn't fight the Righthaven bastards like DU did!

1. Good, it used to be a decent site when they stayed away from politics...
sadly most gun sites are populated by RWers and the few leftist pro-gun forums are generally pretty lame...there might be an opportunity there somewhere, huh?

2. I couldn't agree with you more
I hate the RW crap I see at online sites, gun organizations, and quite often at the range.

Yeah, Hitler would agree that the poor and vulnerable members of society shouldn't own guns, you two have something in common there. Most of us here would rather that the vulnerable members of society have the right to own guns without obstruction by the government.

4. I've taken to just keeping my mouth shut about it.
I don't bring up politics at the range. I don't think I've ever run into a pro-gun liberal person.

5. I tend to stay away from politics at the range
Though I confess I take secret delight getting a better score than 1 die hard tea partier who shoots at a local match.

6. You're going to the wrong range...
I'd invite you to the Pima County range, but it might be a long trip for you...

10. Huh?
Armed Citizen was very careful to avoid politics, and stick strictly to the mission of documenting civilian defensive gun uses.

9. why we didn't fight
We couldn't find anyone willing to fund our defense. Remember, we're conservatives. We don't have rich lawyers on our side.

13. I undoubtedly disagree with some of your views on other issues, but I'm glad you're back up.
I'm sure you know that DU was also attacked by the Righthaven trolls as well.

IMO, the Righthaven "business model" is a direct assault on the traditional concept of fair use.
