Creigh Deeds Sweeps VA Democratic governor’s primary race,
Edited on Tue Jun-09-09 10:10 PM by virginia mountainman
Mr Deeds, a staunchly pro-gun Democrat, handily defeated both Brian Moran, and Terry McAuliffe in Virginia's Democratic governor’s primary race today!!

A few burbs from some news outlets...

http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/local/Creigh-Deeds-wins-Virginia-gubernatorial-primary-47461247.html

Deeds, 51, had been buoyed by a Washington Post endorsement that prompted many Democrats to give him a second look, and he looked immune to 11th-hour attacks on his pro-gun record in the legislature.

Moran and McAuliffe tried to check Deeds’ momentum, particularly in those liberal-leaning northern suburbs, by pointing to his opposition to most gun control measures.

The tactic didn’t work, though. The vote returns showed Deeds, a centrist Democrat, was winning big in all areas of Virginia, particularly in rural areas west of Richmond, and was even running first in suburban Fairfax and Arlington counties in northern Virginia.

1. I voted for Deeds,
I liked his pro-choice stance, I liked the way he regards education, and I think guns suck.

Virginians have more important things to consider than the toys that some people need to keep their feet on the ground ....................

4. Maybe if the progressive candidates would get with the time
and be progressive on the issue of RKBA they would have a chance.

VA is slowly turning blue but outside Northern Virginia, Richmond, and Norfolk gun control is an anchor.

Two progressives who spent the whole race beating each other up and then thought it would be "smart" to attack the other guys PRO GUN record???? WTF. I mean VA have liberal gun laws for a reason. Will of the people.

If anything their ads just convinced a lot of undecided gun owners who to vote for.

Only ad I saw was an "attack ad" on Deeds. It was talking about his record. For a second I thought it was paid for by Deeds.

6. I heard McAuliffe spent a bundle too
What were the final numbers?

I guess, if you were cynical, you could look at this as a repudiation of both the gun control of the '90's that McAuliffe championed and the DLC legacy in general.

Or maybe they just didn't like a guy with a New York accent telling them what they should be doing.

Either works for me.

7. I've long felt that the best thing McAuliffe could do for the Democratic party...
... was to keep his trap shut.
