New York Times is wringing its "hands" again...
I almost could not read the editorial, over the sounds of them defecating themselves...

Fellow Democratic Underground Civil Rights advocates, We are winning, if we can, lets redouble our efforts. Let's our legislators know, that they answer to us.

11. My deer rifle is Spanish military surplus
It's a... RIFLE OF MILITARY ORIGIN!!!!

And the top of the receiver is notched for a stripper clip! No hunter needs the quick-reloading capability of a stripper clip! Only potential mass murders do!

It's an ASSAULT SPANISH MAUSER!!!

12. Spanish military surplus? How old?
Depending on how old your rifle is, it might cause you to restart the Spanish-American war of 1898, or possibly the Spanish civil war! Alternatively, it might cause you to join the Republican side, but steer clear of those Communist "advisors."

13. It's in 7mm Mauser, so I think it's Spanish Civil War
It's sporterized, so it's been modified a fair amount. New stock, scope mount, no iron sights, etc.

I guess that makes it an assault sniper weapon???

15. Definitely an "assault sniper weapon"
Hell, back in 1999, the Chicago Tribune referred to a model 98 Mauser as a "bolt-action assault rifle," and in the next sentence called it "a large-caliber, high-powered sniper's rifle."

2. The NY Times editorial board is controlled by gun confiscationists
An easy position to advocate for when you live in a ritzy Manhattan apartment building guarded by armed security 24/7.

6. Yet another blatant lie published deliberately by anti-gun press.
"regulations that had to be struck down in federal court for ignoring public safety and environmental standards".

seems to me the only thing the courts had to say related to an environmental impact study - or rather a lack thereof.

None of the reports I read said anything at all about the court saying anything at all about "public safety".

Has it ever occured to the people that write garbage like this, that the lies they continue to tell only HELP US, and HURT THEM, in the long run? Anytime they tell lies like this one, or like those in that other piece about the semi-automatic rifles, that they WILL be called on it? That it serves to increase our vigilance...that it serves to bolster membership in about every pro-firearms rights group...and that it utterly destroys the credibility of both themselves AND thier cause.

This right here, is a large part of why WE win.

7. Now, now, it's not nice to tease the terminally ill.
The family that controls The New York Times empire has lost more than 86 percent of its fortune and may have sell their controlling stake to get out of debt.

9. HaHa. The NYT is shooting blanks on gun control.

I wonder if the NYT ever considered the Senators were responding to their constituents?

10. Wow. that's disingenuous and then some
What a pile of twaddle. I'm not entirely happy about the way the rider about concealed carry was slipped into a wholly unrelated bill, but it's not like this is anything new. To a large extent, it's how the 1994 AWB got passed, slipped into a piece of "must pass" legislation. What's more, anyone who knows anything about Congressional politics knows that these kind of riders happen all the time, so the NYT editorial's tone of outrage rings more than a little hollow.

Then there's the refusal to entertain the possibility that the opinions of a bunch of New York newspapermen might not be reflective of the rest of the country.
