Police: Homeowner Strangles Intruder
CLEVELAND - Police are investigating a case involving a homeowner strangling a man to death on the city's southeast side.

Officials said Johnathan Parson, 22, died while struggling with a homeowner of a residence on East 127th Street.

Police said Parsons and another man entered the duplex at about 2 a.m. One of them had a gun. It's unclear which one, however.

The homeowner who lived in the residence with his girlfriend and young child managed to get the shotgun and fight off one of the intruders.

The homeowner said he found Parsons in a room assaulting his girlfriend.

This is a strange one. I'm guessing the homeowner used a martial arts choke of same kind and held it too long.

2. I suspect you are correct.
It doesn't take long for cardiac arrest to occur from hypoxia.

7. Chocking someone from behind is rarely effective but in the heat of the moment...

9. Really, I made a 255 pound bodybuilder tap out in less than 4 seconds.
He was already blacking out. He is 5 inches taller than me and outweighs me by 90 pounds. The rear naked choke when applied correctly is very effective and difficult to escape from. Here is a link for you http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rear_naked_choke. The so called figure four variation in the link is the most effective and difficult to escape from in my opinion. Good techniques to know if the situation arises.

11. I was refering to the basic thumbs/fingers choke hold, which is harder to apply from behind.
The Judo chokes are mostly carotid holds, which can be very effective. Just as Darryl Gates.

5. It is called a carotid artery choke.
It is called a carotid artery choke and can knock a person unconscious in seconds. I had it happen to me during martial arts sparring - and I was on top of the guy who did it to me.

6. There are lots of variations that's why I didn't specify, it's possible it was a true airway choke.

8. Wow, that'll take some therapy to overcome.
If you've ever talked to someone who's killed in this manner, it's an intensely up close and personal way to do it.
