Democrat Presidential Candidates Shying Away From Gun Control
YES!

.........Most Democratic White House hopefuls rarely highlight gun control in their campaigns, and none of the candidates who routinely poll near the top is calling for the licensing of new handgun owners, a central theme of then-Vice President Al Gore (news - web sites)'s winning primary campaign in 2000...........

1. I thought you already needed a license
to buy a handgun?

2. It depends on the state

In CA, MD, HI, NJ, MA yes you do.

In VT, WV, GA, AK, ect you do not.

This goes nicely with Dean's position. States that want to control handguns-fine.

States that don't-fine.

5. yup, just fine, thank you

"States that want to control handguns-fine.
States that don't-fine."

And people who want handguns that they may not buy/possess in their own state just go to the next state over and buy them ... or buy them from someone who bought them a couple of states over ...

Kinda like how people in Canada who want handguns that they may not buy/possess in Canada just cross the border and buy them, or buy them from someone who bought them over the border.

Yup, all those folks who live in those charming, picturesque states where there just isn't a firearms violence problem (at least, by US standards) should never, ever consider voluntarily suffering a little inconvenience and doing something that just might save someone else's life. I gather that this is simply not the Amurrican Way.

6. I agree that Dean's mantra is unacceptable.
It is unacceptable that any Americans be deprived of the tools for self-defense, whether they live in Wyoming or the District of Columbia.

Gun control is the problem, not the solution.

11. piss off
We seem to have played this game before.

here

you:
"I don't understand your conclusion, though, that the answer
therefore is to pass more ineffective gun control laws."

me:
If you want to refer to a conclusion I have stated, kindly copy
and paste it and put quotation marks around it.
I have never in my life stated the "conclusion" you characterize
as mine in that passage, and I will simply not be misrepresented
as having done so.

If you want to agree with someone who has said something you agree with, go find someone who has done that.

I think that you should find this fairly easy to do without having to pretend agreement where none exists.

4. There is an instant background check through NICS
for purchases from federal firearms dealers, but there is no permit or license required under federal law or under the law of most states. As mentioned, however, some states, and some municipalities do require licenses or purchase permits. Some jurisdictions impose their own waiting periods, as well.

In Ohio, for example, there are no state restrictions. My firearm purchases are limited only by my finances.

3. Jeepers
When Al Gore was running, the economy was going great guns, we were respected throughout the world and at peace, and there were plenty of jobs..

You don't suppose things have changed even a little bit, do you?

7. I Predict Gun Control Will Be a Non-Issue This Time
Bush and his croneys have screwed up enough things to give the Dems enough fodder without even appraching the gun control issue.

8. I disagree, gun control will be a major issue unless gun-grabbers publicly
and repeatedly renounce their goal of banning handguns. That is highly unlikely so people like Fienstein will continue to work as unpaid toadys for Karl Rove.

9. The economy is in the toliet, there's a quagmire in Iraq
There are bigger fish to fry...and let's face it, the voter whose number one concern is preventing background checks at gun shows is either a gun seller or a criminnal.
